Envelopes containing up to £50 being handed out free today

Envelopes containing up to £50 are being given out at 10 locations across the UK today - with a total of £10,000 being given away.

Cashback site Quidco.com is giving away money to cheer up passers-by on Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year partly thanks to financial pressures after Christmas.

The team will be handing out envelopes with either £5, £10, £20 or £50 in cash in city centres and train stations, reports The Mirror .

Some envelopes will also contain scratch cards and at each location £1,000 worth of free money will be given away.

The Quidco giveaway is happening during these times and locations on January 20:

  • Sheffield train station – 8am to 9am
  • Manchester city centre – 12pm to 1pm
  • Cambridge city centre – 12pm to 1pm
  • Peterborough train station – 5pm to 6pm
  • Colchester town centre – 12pm to 1pm
  • Chelmsford town centre – 5pm to 6pm
  • Bournemouth town centre – 12pm to 1pm
  • Basingstoke town train station – 5pm to 6pm
  • York city centre – 12pm to 1pm
  • Leeds train station – 5pm to 6pm

In total, there will be 100 envelopes filled with cash and 25 with a scratch card per location.

The scratch cards are produced by the National Lottery and haven't been designed especially for the hunt.

That means you aren't guaranteed to win anything at all, and if you do win you'll need to claim your prize at a convenience store or through Camelot.

Chris Hutchings, CMO at Quidco, said: "We want to celebrate our members on one of the most dreaded days of the year by shining a bit of light on the UK doing what we do best – giving away cash!"It's Blue Monday - what's supposed to be the most depressing day of the year as the bills start to land after Christmas.
