Entries open for 2021 Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge

There’s just over a month go to get your entries in for this year’s Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge.

The duathlon through the town’s forest is returning on October 2 and 3 after last year’s event was claimed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The junior races will be on Saturday, with two different events on offer for youngsters.

And on Sunday the senior event will feature a 10 mile run and a 16 mile ride on the 7Stanes red mountain bike trail. Races on both days can be entered either as an individual or a team.

There are a couple of changes for this year’s race, with the pandemic meaning Forestry and Land Scotland are tackling a backlog of work. As a result, the second boardwalk section on the route is out of use, with the reroute adding a further 0.45 miles to the challenge.

The other change regards access to the start, finish and changeover point at Richorn Trailhead Car Park. The hard standing area can only be accessed by vehicles going through the trailhead, with foot access through the right hand car park.

The two fields can still be used for parking but no vehicle or foot traffic will be allowed on the road past the chalets. Extra signs and marshalling will support the change, which are crucial to the future of the event.

Entries for both the senior and junior races can be made online – just visit www.sientries.co.uk and search for Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge.
