Entrance test for admission to meritorious schools in Punjab on June 12

With nearly 39,000 students getting 80% and above marks in the Punjab school education board class-10 exams, the state government has decided to hold a common entrance test (CET) on June 12 to shortlist students for admission to seven meritorious schools across the state.

Besides free residential facilities and coaching for admission to professional courses, the state government is providing free education (class 11-12) to students at these schools.

Meritorious schools project director major general KAS Bhullar (retd), said, “We have decided to hold a common entrance test for admission to all meritorious schools. We will be able to accommodate around 4,500 students in seven schools this session.”

The students who have scored 80% and above in class 10 will be eligible to appear in the examination, he added.

“It will be a class-10 level test with three sections --- Maths, English and Science – carrying 50 marks each. The three-hour test will be held at all district headquarters,” said Bhullar, adding that a merit list will be prepared after the test.

3 more schools to come up

The number of meritorious schools in the state is set to go up to 10 with three new facilities coming up at Sangrur, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur.

Already, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Amritsar, SAS Nagar and Talwara (Hoshiarpur) have a meritorious school each.
