The entire year group has been sent home after a Year 8 student tested positive for the coronavirus.
All Year 8 pupils at Parrenthorn High School in Prestwich have been told to isolate at home after a confirmed Covid-19 case.
The isolation period began from today (October 19) and will continue until the school identifies close contacts, it has confirmed in an email to parents.
The school says it will be in touch with families tomorrow with further instructions guiding pupils.
In the meantime, students should access virtual lessons.
The email, sent on Sunday, reads: "Dear parents,
A positive Covid test has been confirmed in Year 8. Year 8 pupils must NOT attend school tomorrow (19th October), and must self-isolate until we identify close contacts.
"We will be in contact tomorrow with further instruction.
"Pupils should log on to Microsoft Teams for details of virtual lessons."
The number of Greater Manchester schools affected by confirmed Covid cases this academic year now stands at more than 500.
