Entire year group self-isolating at secondary school in Bridgend county

An entire year group of pupils at a secondary school in Bridgend county are currently self-isolating following a positive coronavirus test.

Year 10 pupils from Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen in Tondu, Bridgend, have been advised to remain home while track and trace processes are underway.

A spokesperson for Bridgend Council said: “The school has advised the year group to self-isolate as a precautionary measure while track and trace procedures are carried out to confirm whether anyone else may have been in contact.

“Further advice will be issued as soon as this process has been completed. In the meantime, the school has implemented online lessons to ensure that the pupils do not miss out on their learning, and parents, carers and guardians have been informed.”

Last week it was reported that more than 12,000 children were absent from school due to coronavirus on the most recent day when the data was recorded in Wales.

Covid-related absences have soared by almost half in one week, provisional Welsh Government data released on Thursday shows.
