Two year groups at Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Swansea self-isolating after coronavirus case

Two year groups at Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Swansea are self-isolating after a coronavirus outbreak.

Year nine pupils are affected, forcing 185 pupils to stay home until December 10. According to Swansea Council, no staff members have been asked to self-isolate.

While it was confirmed on Wednesday, December 2, that year eight pupils at the school had also been told to self-isolate.

Approximately 340 pupils have been affected in total by the outbreak at the school in Gorseinon.

It's not the first time the school has been impacted by Covid.

On Friday, September 18, pupils in a specialist unit at the school were told to self-isolate after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

On that occasion 10 pupils and eight members of staff were told to self-isolate for 14 days.

In the week ending November 25, there were 64 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Swansea schools, compared to 59 in Cardiff.

Since September, 76.6% of primary schools in Swansea have been affected with at least one case of coronavirus, compared to 68.4% in Cardiff.

In both Swansea and Cardiff, 100% of secondary schools have been affected with at least one coronavirus case since term begun.
