Entire year at Kilmarnock school told to stay home following a spike in Covid cases

Pupils at a Kilmarnock secondary school have been ordered to stay at home following a surge in coronavirus cases.

All S2 pupils at the William McIlvanney Campus school were instructed not to come to school today after a number of positive tests were connected to the year group.

A text sent to parents last night, less than 12 hours before school started, said that only pupils that received a text or a letter would have to self-isolate but the whole year would be off school grounds as a precautionary measure.

The correspondence to parents read: "Following a number of S2 cases over the weekend and a further two positive cases expected tomorrow [Monday], we are asking all S2 pupils to stay at home, at least for tomorrow, maybe longer.

"To be clear, it is only those that have received a text or letter either yesterday or earlier in the day that need to self-isolate. The rest of S2 are at home as a precaution and to avoid disruption to families tomorrow [Monday].

"I will be in touch through the app with an update when the position is established.

"I think this is the safest this [SIC] for families at this juncture."

NHS Ayrshire & Arran have been contacted for comment.
