Entire primary two class self isolating after head teacher gets covid

A class in an East Kilbride primary school is self-isolating after the head teacher and another staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The P2 class in South Park Primary has been sent home to isolate for 14 days "as a precaution", South Lanarkshire Council confirmed.

The authority told the East Kilbride News that the head teacher tested positive earlier and is at home.

A council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the parents of children in P2 have been asked by NHSL Public Health to self-isolate them for 14 days as a precautionary measure as they have been identified as a close contact to an individual who as tested positive for Covid-19.

"Anyone with symptoms is asked to stay off and to take a test.

"All positive cases involving a pupil or adult who works in a school are individually assessed by NHSL Public Health and parents and staff are informed in writing of the outcome in terms of who is required to self-isolate."

The school is the latest to have positive cases confirmed with the town's high schools as well as Strathaven Academy affected and five teachers having previously tested positive for Covid-19 at Greenhills Primary.
