NICHINAN, Miyazaki -- A villa and the entire surrounding mountain has opened for rent in Miyazaki Prefecture. The about 12,000 square-meter area has a cottage that can accommodate up to 10 people, and renters can enjoy digging for bamboo shoots, shooting fireworks and making bonfires in the midst of nature.
Taisuke Toyama, 34, who migrated from Tokyo, started the service on Aug. 10 after he renovated a farmhouse that had been used as a private lodging facility in Nichinan in the prefecture.
"I want guests to enjoy their stay freely with just their family and friends, without worrying about being seen," he said.

Toyama worked in Tokyo for about eight years and spent half of his life traveling overseas. At that time, he felt that he wanted to make more people overseas come to know about the good qualities of Japan.
When he first visited Nichinan three years ago at the invitation of a friend, he was fascinated by the natural environment there. He felt it was similar to the mountains of Laos and the sea of Cebu Island in the Philippines, both of which he had liked during his travels.
Toyama moved to Nichinan in February of last year and worked as a tour guide as a member of the local development support team from April that year. Then this April, he established a travel and lodging company called King Tourism Japan.
The villa includes barbecue facilities, an outdoor hot tub, a bar counter, pizza oven and hammocks. With its close proximity to the sea, the company plans to offer the option of surfing and cruising tours.
"I want it to be the most free and enjoyable place to spend time in Japan," Toyama said.
Rentals are limited to one group per day. The cost is 88,000 yen per night for four people, including tax. In the case of five or more people, 11,000 yen will be added for each additional person. And if visitors do not wish to stay overnight, rental for events is available from 20,000 yen per hour.
Reservations can be made on the official King Tourism Japan website.
