An Edinburgh primary school has been forced to close until the end of May over a large-scale COVID outbreak among pupils.
More than half the classes at Davidson's Mains Primary School - which has a pupil roll of 534 - have been sent home due to fears surrounding the spread of the virus.
It's thought as many as 17 teachers and 11 of the school's 19 classes are now in self-isolation, forcing education bosses to adopt remote learning until at least the end of the month.
It comes as the latest Scottish Government figures showed a rise in the number of cases across the NHS Lothian health board area, with 348 registered in the last seven-day period.
Council chiefs said they were confident that classes would be able to return safely on Monday following a six day shutdown while enhanced cleaning measures are put in place.
The Davidson's Mains nursery school has also been shut due to the outbreak, meaning children will be forced to learn from home over the next week.
Parents were informed of the outbreak this afternoon.
A council spokesperson said: “After a meeting with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection Team earlier today a decision has been taken for all classes and the nursery at Davidson’s Mains Primary School to move to remote learning until the end of this week.
“This a precautionary measure and the decision was not taken lightly but the health and safety of all our young people and our staff is paramount. The school is contacting parents and carers to inform them of their remote learning plans.”
