Have you ever dreamed of being an award-winning published writer? Enter the National Short Story Week young writer competition and that dream might become a reality!
Young people aged from 11 to 13 years-old are asked write a short story based on the title “The Promise.” Your story must be on the theme of a promise, but exactly what happens and why is up to you and your imagination – and it needs to be between 900 and 1000 words long.
The stories will be judged by a panel of readers, and the finalists will be judged by a published author.
There are some great prizes on offer. The best stories will be published in a short story anthology, as an ebook and in paperback, during National Short Story Week in November 2015. All of the royalties will go to Teenage Cancer Trust, to support them in the brilliant work they do for young people with cancer, and their families. Last year’s anthology was a bestseller on Amazon!
One overall winner will be crowned National Short Story Week young writer 2015. That winning story will be published here on this site (here’s last year’s brilliant story by Gemma Craig-Sharples) and recorded by a professional actor as a podcast too.
To take part, ask your English teacher or school librarian to enter your school for the competition. All of the information can be found on Nationalshortstoryweek.org.uk.
The deadline for entries is Monday 24 April 2015. The competition is open to the first 250 schools to register, so your school should register as soon as possible to make sure they get a place.
