Ensure Rs 8,000 crore cane payment within 100 days, Rs 12,000 crore in six months: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW: Reiterating his government's resolve to produce results in a time-bound manner, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday pitched for a qualitative increase in the income of farmers in the coming days.

Chairing a review meeting of agriculture department, the CM underscored the need for an eco-sensitive agricultural system besides a decisive setup to ensure food and nutrition security for the people. He said though the state government did not have any shortage of funds, maintaining a financial balance was necessary.

Stressing on the use of modern agricultural techniques as well as traditional agricultural science, Yogi said that agricultural education and agricultural research should be made farmer-oriented and accountable. He said only 30-35% production was being done against the requirement of edible oils and added that in case of pulses, 40-45% production was done. Yogi pressed for a concrete action plan to bring up production as per the demand. "Production of oilseeds and pulses has to be increased. The role of small and marginal farmers will be important in this," he said.

Yogi said efforts should be made to develop every Krishi Vigyan Kendra as a centre of excellence and added that the survey of crop insurance scheme should be simplified further. He underlined the importance of natural farming in 35 districts along the banks of river Ganga.

The CM said there was a problem of missing names in the PM Kisan Yojana. "A campaign should be organised for correction of data," he said.

On the issue of sugarcane, the CM said that a new record was made with the payment of Rs 1,69,153 crore in the last five years. "Efforts should be made to ensure sugarcane price payment of Rs 8,000 crore within 100 days and the target of Rs 12,000 crore should be set for six months," he said.

The CM also stressed on the need for increasing productivity of sugarcane from the present 81.5 tonnes per hectare to 84 tonnes per hectare in the next five years. Yogi said his government was committed to making sugarcane price payment to farmers within 14 days. "All necessary efforts should be made for this," he said.

On the issue of cow protection, Yogi said a cow sanctuary should be established in the next 100 days. "At least 50,000 cows should be rehabilitated through coordination with panchayati raj department within 100 days," the CM added.
