‘Ensure polio vaccination reaches all 2.53 lakh eligible children’

Noor Zahar Khanum, Chief Executive Officer, Raichur Zilla Panchayat, has directed officials to take steps to administer polio vaccination to children below five years and conduct the National Pulse Polio Drive on February 27. She was chairing a meeting recently.

“The aim is to vaccinate 2.53 lakh children in the district. Officials should take all initiatives to reach the figure by February 27 to make the drive successful and ensure that no child below five years is left out,” the CEO said.

Ms. Khanum said that a total of 2,53,675 children have been identified as eligible to get vaccinated and of them, 64,725 are from rural areas and 1,88,950 are from urban areas. As many as 1,131 booths have been established across the district and 2,636 staff have been deployed to supervise the drive. Also, 230 mobile teams, 33 teams at the Railway Station and 54 teams at bus stands will be deployed to vaccinate the children even on journeys through these areas.

Officials should hold adequate awareness programmes and conduct jathas involving anganwadi and ASHA workers and NGOs, she said, adding that officials should collect information about children migrating with their parents and vaccinate them on that day ensuring that no one from the labour families were left out from getting vaccinated.

Ramkrishna, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, and others were present.
