'Enormous risk': Police urge photo-seeking public to steer clear of flood waters

POLICE and emergency services have urged Hunter residents seeking photo opportunities to steer clear of flood waters and avoid unnecessary travel.

As rain continues to pour over parts of the region, causing flooding, road closures and public transport disruptions, emergency crews are witnessing unsafe behaviour.

"The NSW SES are responding to several calls for assistance within affected areas such as Hinton, Seaham, Dungog and Clarence Town, however emergency crews are observing people entering flood waters - posing an enormous risk to not only themselves but other emergency service personnel already responding to jobs," Port Stephens-Hunter Police said.

"Floodwater is extremely dangerous as it can have fast moving undercurrents that can wash people and vehicles away. It can also carry debris and livestock, which can pose a major health risk.

"Please stay away from all flooded roads and waterways - a photo or video is not worth the risk."
