Enormous dead shark found hanging from rafters at high school in vile prank

A huge dead shark was found hanging from rafters at a high school in a hideous prank.

Students are being blamed for the macabre display at Ponte Vedra High School in Jacksonville, Florida, whose mascot is a cartoon shark.

The dead fish had been gutted and stored in a freezer before being hung up using two sets of cables on Wednesday night, according to officials.

It's unclear where it had come from or who'd caught it.

School employees discovered the sick joke at around 8am on Thursday before the shark was cut down and removed.

Photos of the shark have been sent to FWC marine fisheries biologists to identify the species.

However, CCTV cameras at the school captured the moment the high school students are caught hanging the shark.

The video has since been handed over to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, officials have confirmed.

Alex AuBuchon, spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, told the Miami Herald : "A group of five high school students at Ponte Vedra High School hung a gutted shark on the rafters of the school courtyard.

“We have learned the shark was harvested Tuesday night, gutted, and stored in a freezer prior to being hung.”

The prank has been blasted on Twitter, with social media users suggesting the prank was unacceptable.

One user wrote: “This is sick" and said the students should be disciplined.

However, some users were in awe of how they were able to catch a shark as one user wrote: “I’m more impressed that they caught the shark than what happened after."

The St. John’s County School District is looking into the incident.
