YOKOHAMA -- Enoshima Electric Railway Co. has launched a smartphone app that provides tourist information about the Enoden train line in four languages as part of efforts to improve services for foreign visitors in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
The Enoshima-Kamakura Guide app was developed by Fujitsu Network Solutions Ltd., based in Nishi Ward, Yokohama. The app provides information on sightseeing attractions, including the Great Buddha of Kamakura and the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine. It also offers travel tips, such as where to exchange currencies and how to worship at shrines and temples. The information is displayed in English, Chinese, French and Spanish. The app also features information about 10 popular spots with superb views.
The number of foreigners visiting Enoshima island and Kamakura, both in Kanagawa Prefecture, has been increasing year after year. Enoshima has been selected to host the sailing competitions during the 2020 Games, meaning more foreigners are expected to visit the area. This prompted the railway operator to boost its efforts to provide tourist information.
The app also has a function that allows users to switch between Google maps and static maps that can be viewed when there is no internet connection.
