Enoch Burke Mother’s Day Card leaves people in stitches over cheeky caption

A Mother’s Day card inspired by the Enoch Burke controversy has left people in stitches with its cheeky caption.

The dismissed teacher has been making headlines in recent weeks over a high-profile standoff with his old school

Chaotic courtroom scenes have been reported, with the Burke family at one stage having to be physically removed by gardai.

It is these scenes which inspired a Mother’s Day card being sold by Irish firm PalPack.

The card shows a group of gardai carrying a person away, with the caption: “Mam, you’ll never, ever be rid of me! Happy Mother’s Day!”.

The A5 card is currently for sale on PalPack’s website for €3.95.

Earlier this year, the same firm created a Valentine’s Day card featuring Burke which went viral.

It showed the Mayo man standing outside the gates of his former school, with the caption: “I’ll never ever ever ever ever leave you”.

At the time, Aran Freeman, an operations manager for PalPack, said it was receiving orders for the card every 15 seconds during peak sale times.

“It’s the bestseller without a doubt — we’ve sold thousands of them so far,” Freeman told The Times.

“We’ve been blown away by the reaction. A good few of us will be working over the weekend with the orders we’re getting for the Enoch card. The website almost went down a couple of times — it’s been crazy.”

Meanwhile a number of St Patrick’s Day parades poked fun at the ongoing controversy.

One float in Shrule Co Mayo, depicted Burke being removed from court, the words "High Court" were written on the cardboard on the float.

Two people dressed in hi-vis jackets remove the person dressed as Burke who is standing in front of a person dressed as a judge.

The two people in hi-vis jackets, supposedly playing gardai, then repeat the process of attempting to remove Burke from the court as the float heads around the parade.

Another float, which was reportedly used in the Cavan parade, was much more simple and had a man dressed as Burke standing in the same position, much like the photo taken of the real Burke as he stood outside his former school with a member of the gardai asking him to leave.
