A 13-year-old boy is in a critical condition and a fellow pupil has been arrested at a school in Northern Ireland.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland released details on Wednesday of the alleged assault, which happened at St Michael’s College in Enniskillen at about 2.45pm on Monday.
The boy, named locally as Oisin McGrath, is in a critical condition at the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast.
PSNI Det Insp David Hallawell said a 17-year-old male was detained after the incident. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
A spokeswoman for Northern Ireland’s Department of Education said it was aware of the incident.
The injured teenager is from the County Fermanagh village of Belcoo, where he plays for his local Gaelic football team.
Belcoo O’Rahilly’s GAA club asked its members to pray for the boy. “The club asks all its members to keep Oisin McGrath in their thoughts and prayers. Oisin is the 13-year-old son of our secretary, Sharon, and her husband, Nigel, and is a key member of our U14 side,” it said.
