Enniskillen Rangers boss Michael Kerr takes on 450km charity challenge

Enniskillen Rangers boss Michael Kerr is putting his best foot forward in a gruelling 450km charity trek during the month of November.

Michael has started the 30 Day Cuilcagh Mountain Challenge, which will see him walk 15km up and down the peak every day this month.

Kerr will complete 450km in total during November, with donations going to three charities.

All money raised will be split between Action Mental Health New Horizons Enniskillen, the Shane Mulholland Foundation, and Enniskillen food bank.

After six days of the challenge Michael has raised £2875 after setting an initial target of £1,000.

"I have always wanted to do something for charity, and do something different," Michael told Belfast Live Sport.

"I wanted to keep the charities local, and try and support them as much as possible during this tough time, with Covid-19 and everything else going on.

"They are three brilliant charities and deserve every support."

Michael added: "I am doing this every day for 30 days in November, and the support so far has been brilliant.

"I have had family and friends want to join me for the walk, and even strangers. They all seem to enjoy getting outdoors and exercising.

"It has picked up a head of steam and is doing well for the chosen charities."

Each walk takes Michael around two-and-a-half hours, and involves an incline of 1800ft.

"It is a challenge and a half," he laughed.

"I wear a fitness tracker and I think each walk is about 15,000 steps, and I burn about 1400 calories. So hopefully I will lose some weight and get fitter.

"I try and get it done first thing in the morning, and you feel great after completing it. It is great for your physical and mental health."

After eclipsing his initial fundraising target, Michael says any more donations will be a bonus.

"We are flying so far and I appreciate all the support. I want to just keep pushing on now," he added.

"We aren't setting any other target, just whatever we raise we raise."
