Enniskillen bar to undergo major renovation following post-lockdown momentum

One of Enniskillen’s most popular bars is to undergo major renovation works as it aims to capitalise on a post-lockdown boom in business.

Magee’s Spirit Store on East Bridge Street in the Co Fermanagh town is hoping to complete the renovation works ahead of the busy Christmas season.

According to bar manager Sean Swift, Magee’s is hoping to build on its reputation as one of the best in the business for quality cocktails in the town.

Co Fermanagh has seen an increase in staycation tourism as lockdown restrictions were lifted earlier this year, while local businesses hope to benefit from the introduction of the £100 High Street voucher scheme.

Work has begun at Magee’s to completely renovate their upstairs area, extending the floor space with new ceilings, furniture, lighting and TVs for sport.

Sean told MyFermanagh: “It will be impressive when it is finished, work just started the other day and we hope to have it open by Saturday, October 23.

“It was really about building on the momentum we gained after the pandemic, with everyone having to be seated we were using the upstairs area a lot more than we would have previously.

“We used to only open it on a Saturday night or for a private party, and we were that busy the last few months we found ourselves using the space a lot more.

“It just started rolling from that and we started to think about doing a few new things with this.

“It went from a quick lick of paint to a full renovation in the space of about half an hour’s chat.

“We have had good feedback from people going up there at the minute and we thought why not capitalise on it leading up to Christmas and make it the go-to destination for people.

“We have been very lucky the last few months and we just want to keep the ball rolling."

Sean added that the bar wants to establish itself as the go-to spot in Enniskillen and Co Fermanagh for cocktails, and has already built a reputation for that.

“We want to give people in Fermanagh top quality drinks, there has never really been a cocktail scene as such.

“I’ve run cocktail bars in Liverpool myself so we took a few ideas, simplified them down and thought what might work well here.

“So we’ve become the bar for cocktails at the minute in the town.”
