Abdel Karim al-Harouni, chairman of Ennahda’s Shura Council, has stated that the movement will not grant its confidence vote to Elyes Fakhfakh’s government, describing it as a "cabinet of minorities."
Harouni stressed Ennahda’s call for the formation of a national unity government that brings together all parties represented in the parliament such as the Heart of Tunisia and the Dignity Coalition.
During a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Tunis, Harouni said Friday that Ennahda rejects the government line-up that was submitted by the designated-prime minister to Tunisian President Kais Saied.
He said it is likely that Fakhfakh will return to negotiations in order to introduce amendments to the line-up within the deadline set by the constitutional, which ends on Thursday.
Harouni suggested that the PM-designate makes better choices and forms a national unity government before proposing it to the president.
He reiterated that Ennahda rejects a “government of minorities” to rule the majority.
The national unity government is an option that will not be withdrawn, he affirmed.
He also accused the premier-designate of appointing controversial figures in addition to a weak women's quota.
