Met Office North East weather forecast predicts rain and wind in coming days

Locals woke up to the stunning sunrise over the Herd Groyne lighthouse in South Shield this morning although the sun isn't set to stay.

Thursday's weather forecast predicted widely dry and rather breezy with bright or sunny spells throughout the day.

However, the Met Office predict that rain and wind will be arriving in the region this weekend.

Met Office forecaster Claire Nasir said showers will move very quickly across the country throughout Thursday but they'll become more scattered with some sunshine in the East of England.

A batch of rain will come in from the South on Friday with things staying milder but slightly windy. Strong winds are set to arrive into the region on Friday evening.

Here is the forecast for the North East this weekend:

North East three day weather forecast

Thursday night:

Becoming cloudy overnight with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards. Turning breezy across all areas, but strong winds or gales likely over parts of the Pennines. Remaining mild. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Friday:

Often cloudy, very mild and breezy with occasional spells of rain or drizzle. A few brighter periods in the east at times. More widespread rain, strong winds, arriving by evening. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Saturday

Sunny spells and blustery showers on Saturday.

Sunday

A mainly dry, rather windy day for many parts Sunday.
