Eni Aluko sends emotional message to Chelsea fans as she plays for first time since Mark Sampson scandal

Eniola Aluko has thanked Chelsea fans for their support after she received a warm reception in her first appearance since the England controversy.

The forward was a late substitute in Chelsea Ladies' Women's Super League One 6-0 win over Bristol City Women.

After the game, Aluko posted on Twitter: 'Huge thanks Chelsea LFC fans for the reception when i came on today. I'm truly touched & appreciate all of you! #bestfansever'.

Aluko has not been selected for the national team since last year after she made allegations of racism and bullying against the now former England manager Mark Sampson.

Sampson, who was cleared twice of any wrongdoing after those allegations, was eventually relieved of his duties last week after information came to light about his conduct during his time at Bristol prior to his England appointment.

The Football Association face a hearing with the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) on October 18 to explain their handling of the case.

Aluko will also give evidence to the DCMS as part of the Committee's inquiry into sports governance.
