Englishman's haggis, cheese, onion and chilli toastie goes viral in Scotland- and opinions are mixed

An Englishman risked mass condemnation recently when he posted a picture of a haggis 'toastie' - featuring red onion - on the official Scotland Reddit page.

Tinkering with our proud nation's national dish is always a bit of a bold thing to do, but he also made the mistake of including vegetables. And those vegetables were neither neeps nor tatties, causing a degree of consternation in the hilarious thread that followed.

Sharing a photo of his creation, Reddit user Old-Blighty said:

"I’m an Englishman who loves experimenting with food. This is a haggis, bacon and cheddar toastie. Please let me know your thoughts."

Initial reactions were mostly positive.

One person said: "I think you're a dirty bastart and I like it."

Another Reddit user added: "I hereby dub you an honorary Scot, your lifetimes supply of Irn Bru and complementary heart disease will be with you soon."

While a third said: "That's probably the most delicious sounding crime against nature I've ever heard of."

However, others decided it wasn't unhealthy enough: "Deffo needs chibbed, battered and deep fried a la Pizza Crunch."

And the biggest criticism was levelled at the (raw) red onion and chilli - a.k.a. "purple and red s**t."

Responding to a question as to what the vegetables were, Old-Blighty said: "Ah mate that’s red onion and chillis! It’s to help give the impression I like vegetables too."

What do you think of this 'crime against nature'? Would you eat it? Let us know in the comments!
