An English-language version of "Picture Book, United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" will go into publication on Sunday.
Published in Japanese in 2015 by Choubunsha Inc., more than 20,000 copies are in libraries across the nation, mainly distributed to elementary and junior high schools, and used in teaching.
The English-language version will be sent to U.N. organizations, embassies in Japan and organizations for the disabled in Asia.
The Japanese version, published the year after Japan ratified the convention, introduces the contents of the treaty and depicts how society will change as it places importance on the treaty.
"Picture books are easy to touch readers' heart and provide opportunities for foreigners to understand the Convention," said Katsunori Fujii, the author and chairperson of the Japan Council for on Disability.
