English teacher shares 10 commonly mispronounced words — and you'll be surprised by how many you're getting wrong

YouTube vlogger and English teacher, Lucy Earl, has posted a pronunciation tutorial revealing common mistakes to avoid if you want to sound professional —and you're probably getting more of them wrong than you think.

She posted the video to her YouTube account, English with Lucy, which has over 4 million subscribers, highlighting certain words you might use in formal situations, such as the workplace or in a job interview.

"Avoid the pronunciation of these 10 everyday words if you want to sound educated, intelligent, and professional when you speak English," she says.

Her list includes mistakenly adding an "i" after the "v" in "mischievous" or saying "of" instead of "uv" when abbreviating the word "have."

Other common errors you might be unwittingly committing include adding an "x" to either the Latin word "et cetera" or Italian word "espresso."

Here's the correct way to say 10 commonly mispronounced words

1. Et cetera: et-set-era

2. Asterisk: as-ter-risk

3. Library: lai-bri

4. February: feb-bru-eri

5. Moot: muut

6. Mischievous: mis-che-vous

7. Pronunciation: pre-nun-see-a-shun

8. 've: uv

9. Facade: fa-sard

10. Espresso: es-press-o

Watch the video below to see how many you've been pronouncing wrong.

Thanks to Lucy you'll never look silly in front of colleagues again.
