English pundit makes surprise admission about ex-Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi

English pundit Don Goodman has been impressed by Kyogo Furuhashi's initial Birmingham City displays, despite initially feeling sceptical about his arrival.

The former Celtic striker joined the Championship outfit from Rennes earlier this summer.

Furuhashi has played twice for his new club so far and scored his first goal in their colours on Wednesday evening against Sheffield United.

Goodman, who played for a multitude of English clubs such as West Brom, Sunderland, and Wolves, was initially dubious about the Japanese striker.

After seeing him play live, though, he soon changed his tune.

"I must admit with regards to Kyogo, I did think it was a lot of money, but having seen him first-hand on Friday night, I really, really thought he was outstanding," said Goodman [footballleagueworld.co.uk].

"He is going to be really exciting, and you could hear and feel the appreciation of the Birmingham City fans of the work rate.

"The work rate, he just never stopped running.

"He does that thing that defenders hate in that he just runs in behind them and stretches the play, so I think that both him and Birmingham City are in line for a really, really good season this year."

Furuhashi is at Birmingham alongside his old Celtic teammate and fellow countryman, Tomoki Iwata.

Chris Davies, Brendan Rodgers' old assistant, is in charge at St Andrew's.
