Soccer fans rejoice on Friday as Liverpool kicks off the 2019-20 Premier League campaign at home against newly-promoted Norwich City, hoping to open Week 1 of the new season with a bang. Last term’s runner-up lost the Community Shield to defending league champions Manchester City on Sunday, and a home clash against the Canaries gives them a great chance to bounce back.

Titleholders City is featured in Saturday’s early kick-off and face a tricky trip to West Ham United, who have strengthened their team this summer. Striker Sebastien Haller and midfield gem Pablo Fornals arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt and Villarreal, respectively. A healthy Manuel Lanzini will be like a new signing for the Hammers after missing last season due to injury.

Pep Guardiola broke City’s transfer record for the second summer in succession to sign $80 million midfielder Rodri from Atletico Madrid. Rivals Manchester United also broke the bank to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire in a $97 million deal. The defender should be ready in time to face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

That clash promises to be an early pace-setter in the top-four race, with north London outfits Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also ready to re-enter that melee.

Tottenham became the first club in Premier League history to not make a summer signing last year, but they’ve changed course by recruiting Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for $70 million. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have had a mixed preseason featuring three wins (one via penalty shootout) and two defeats (another via penalties), but they’ll hope to improve upon last term’s fourth-place finish in the hope they can bring City and Liverpool back down to earth.
