English National Opera unmasks costumes made with 400,000 crystals for The Mask Of Orpheus

Artist and fashion designer Daniel Lismore shows off the costumes he made for the English National Opera’s production of The Mask Of Orpheus, using 400,000 Swarovski crystals.

Each of the leading characters appear in three forms and have been given their own crystal colours.

Lismore said: “You go to the opera to see beauty. The production will feature dance, clowns, comedy, mimes, dolls, puppets and heartbreaking acting. But the way crystals combine with the lighting sets the mood of the whole opera. The shimmering turns it into something magical.”

The new production will be staged on five nights between October 18 and November 13.
