English National Ballet Philharmonic orchestra 'get together' online to perform Swan Lake

Working from home is trickier for some – especially if your day job is playing the bassoon in an orchestra.

The English National Ballet Philharmonic haven’t let the lockdown get in the way of playing music, as 38 members “got together” to perform an extract from Swan Lake.

Conducted by music director Gavin Sutherland – who dressed for the occasion in full white tie and tails – the musicians each filmed their part of Tchaikovsky’s ballet at home, which were then put together in a video released on the ENB’s YouTube.

Sutherland said: “In these uncertain times the wish of an orchestra and its musicians is just to be together and play together.

“I hoped that providing a platform for our orchestra to work together at a distance would show that music will always unite and bring warmth and happiness even at the most difficult of times."

The ENB has added a number of dance classes and warm-ups with artistic director and world-renowned ballet dancer Tamara Rojo to the YouTube channel for people to do in their own homes.
