English cyclist who switched allegiance from Australia pulls out of Commonwealth Games

  • Matt Richardson has withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to an injury sustained during international racing earlier this week.
  • His absence is a significant blow to Team England's medal prospects, as he was considered a strong favourite for gold in the individual sprint, team sprint, and keirin events.
  • Richardson, who was set to represent England for the first time at the Commonwealth Games, had previously won gold medals for Australia at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

  • Harry Radford will step in to replace Richardson in the men's sprint events, making his Commonwealth Games debut.
