'English can stop lecturing us!' - Brutal reaction from European media to England win vs Denmark

Following a tight 2-1 win over Denmark, England have reached their first major final since 1966.

An own goal by Simon Kjaer and an extra-time winner from Tottenham's Harry Kane turned things around for Gareth Southgate's men, having fallen behind to a wonderful free kick by Mikkel Damsgaard.

In light of the victory, different media outlets from across the continent have had their say and some of the reaction has been quite harsh on England.

Marca

Over in Spain, Marca took a dim view of the penalty Raheem Sterling controversially won which allowed England to take the lead after Kane's spot-kick was initially saved before he fired home.

They wrote: "English football can stop lecturing the rest of the continent about diving. Always going on about how frowned upon it is when a foreigner tries to trick the referee. In pure English football, it's not done. Except in the semi-final of the Euros that is."

Gazzetta dello Sport

Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport took a similar tone, saying the 'generous penalty' awarded to England 'confirms the suspicions of a return of favour' to Boris Johnson for his role in stopping the Super League threat to UEFA.

BT

Over in Denmark, however, the press were more keen to focus on the achievements of their players, as opposed to holding any grudges.

Tabloid BT, wrote: "Brutal! You lost, though you won our hearts."

Ekstra Bladet

While Ekstra Bladet said: "You gave everything: We almost had it all."

Jyllands-Posten

Jyllands-Posten opted for the optimistic: "The European Championship party is over - now the World Cup party can begin."
