English boxer Terri Harper backed to 'surpass Katie Taylor' by pal and pro fighter David Allen

British boxer David Allen has claimed Terri Harper will 'surpass Katie Taylor' and become the world's best female fighter.

Harper, 23, puts her IBO World Super-Featherweight title on the line on Saturday when she takes on Eva Wahlstrom in Sheffield.

Finnish puncher Wahsltrom was outclassed in a unanimous decision defeat to Taylor in 2018.

She now faces up-and-coming fighter Harper, who holds a 9-0 professional record.

Harper has a long way to go before she emulates the feats of two-weight champion Taylor, who has continued her decorated career in style since turning pro in 2016.

Allen, however, believes that inexperienced Harper will be the 'best female fighter on the planet' within just 12 months.

The British heavyweight told Sky Sports: "I think Terry in 12 months will be the best female fighter on the planet.

"I see her day-in and day-out in the gym, I've known Terry from a long time, she's from the next village and is an unbelievable talent.

"Saturday night for me is all about her becoming the new WBC champion."

Allen went on to tip Taylor and Harper to clash in the ring in a year's time.

"She's going to be the best female fighter on the planet in 12 months and I think in 12 months she'll surpass Katie Taylor," he added.

"I think her and Katie Taylor in 12 months is the biggest fight in women's boxing."

Speaking this week on the possibility of taking on Taylor, Harper told Sky Sports: "I wouldn't be surprised right now if someone said you'll be fighting Katie Taylor in a year just with how crazy my life's been in the last two years since being pro.

"If that fight ever did come around, it would be an honour to share a ring with Katie."

Taylor's next scrap is set to take place this Spring when she will fight Amanda Serrano, who boasts a 38-1-1 record in the pro game.
