England great Jimmy Anderson is warning his fellow bowlers to brace for more Australian batting counter-attacks during the Ashes.
Anderson believes Travis Head's swashbuckling century in a session in Australia's nine-wicket first Test win may have shocked his teammates.
But, he says, it shouldn't have.
"Maybe they were taken by surprise a bit, the way he counter-attacked like that and put pressure back on us," Anderson said ahead of the second Test starting in Adelaide on Thursday.
"But that is something I think we expect with all their top order. They have got the ability to do that, all six or seven of them.
"It's something that we should be looking out for."
Anderson, England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker, appears certain to be recalled for Adelaide's day-night Test after missing the series opener.
And his experienced pace partner Stuart Broad is in selection reckoning after also missing the Gabba Test.
Both Anderson and Broad have been named in a 12-man England squad, with paceman Mark Wood rested.
The tourists will announce their team at the toss while Australia have settled on Jhye Richardson to replace Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out by a side strain.
Anderson said he had only seen the 25-year-old Richardson bowl on television before they crossed paths in the nets in Brisbane.
"I was bowling in the net next to him in Brisbane when he couldn't fit his whole run-up into the net," Anderson said.
"So I don't think that's a good judge of how good a bowler he is.
"But, we know, to get in this Australian team you have got to have some quality."
Australian opener David Warner has been picked despite still showing signs of a rib injury suffered in Brisbane.
