England manager Gareth Southgate has opted to name Harry Maguire as a substitute for tonight’s Euro 2020 clash against Scotland.
Maguire is Southgate’s first pick at centre-half when fit but Tyone Mings impressed against Croatia, and Maguire - though back to fitness following an ankle ligament injury - is only a sub.
Southgate has switched his full-backs tonight in what is expected to be a more progressive performance from England, with Reece James and Luke Shaw replacing Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier.
Jordan Henderson has been pushing to return to the side after injury but Southgate has decided against breaking up the midfield pair of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips, who were key to the 1-0 win over Croatia, while the introduction of Jude Bellingham over Henderson on Sunday suggested the Liverpool man is still working to full fitness.
Further forward, Raheem Sterling justified his inclusion and suggested his patchy form with Manchester City may not carry over to the national team with the winner against Croatia, while Mason Mount and Harry Kane feel like Southgate’s undroppables.
Southgate’s toughest decision was the final forward spot, with Phil Foden holding onto his starting role despite Jack Grealish pushing for a start.
