England XI vs Australia: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest today

Gareth Southgate has handed a debut to Levi Colwill for England’s clash with Australia tonight.

The friendly at Wembley will be the first meeting between the Three Lions and the Aussies since May 2016, when Marcus Rashford — who is on the bench — scored less than three minutes into his England debut.

With England back in action next Tuesday for a pivotal qualifier against Italy in which they would qualify for Euro 2024 with a win, manager Gareth Southgate has named an experimental XI against Australia.

Jarrod Bowen, who signed a new deal at West Ham on Saturday, is back in the England squad for the first time since June 2022 and starts in attack.

So too does Ollie Watkins, the Aston Villa striker, who was last called up in the March 2022 international break in which he scored his second England goal in a 3-0 friendly win over Ivory Coast.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to right-back with Jordan Henderson taking the captain’s armband. Fikayo Tomori and Lewis Dunk will line up at the back.

England XI: Johnstone; Alexander-Arnold, Tomori, Dunk, Colwill; Maddison, Gallagher, Henderson; Bowen, Watkins, Grealish

Subs: Ramsdale, Pickford, Trippier, Maguire, Stones, Guehi, Walker, Rice, Rashford, Kane, Foden, Phillips, Bellingham, Nketiah

Injuries: Saka, Wilson, Eze, Chilwell, Shaw, Mings, James
