England World Cup 2018 squad numbers revealed as Gareth Southgate drops hint to his starting XI in Russia

England football have released their squad numbers for the World Cup 2018 in Russia, with Jordan Pickford confirmed, as expected, to hold the all-important No 1 shirt.

Gareth Southgate’s other choices have similarly shed light on a number of other key positions up for grabs, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose, rather than Manchester United’s Ashley Young given the No 3 shirt, indicating he will be England’s first-choice left-back.

On the right, Kieran Trippier takes the No 12 shirt ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold with 22, with Kyle Walker wearing No 2 - not No 4 which he has been wearing in the last few squads - although he is still almost certain to continue on the right of a back three.

The his partners look like they will be Harry Maguire and John Stones, with the pair given the No 6 and No 5 shirts respectively, with Gary Cahill having to settle for the No 15 shirt.

Dele Alli will wear 20 in Russia with Jesse Lingard taking No 7, although this does not necessarily mean the Manchester United man will start as Alli also wears that number for his club, Spurs.

Captain Harry Kane takes the No 9 shirt with Raheem Sterling wearing No 10.
