England Women vs West Indies: Sarah Taylor and Sophie Ecclestone to return

England Women will have Sarah Taylor and Sophie Ecclestone back when they open their summer against West Indies in Leicester on Thursday.

Spinner Ecclestone missed the tour of Sri Lanka in March with a hand injury, while wicketkeeper Taylor did not take part due to the ongoing management of her anxiety.

The pair and all-rounder Jenny Gunn, who was rested, return to the squad of 15 for the first two of three one-day matches against the West Indies that will help England prepare for the Ashes in July.

Youngsters Sophia Dunkley, Freya Davies and Linsey Smith make way, while Georgia Elwiss misses out through injury. The three-match series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship. Two more victories for England, who are a 10-match winning streak, will secure qualification for the 2021 World Cup in New Zealand.

“West Indies will be a big test so we’ll need to be at our best, but we’ve continued to grow and progress as a team and we’re confident about what we can bring to the table,” said captain Heather Knight.

Meanwhile, Australia have named a 14-strong squad for the three-format Ashes series, as well as a further 13 players in an ‘Australia A’ squad to tour England at the same time.

Tayla Vlaeminck and Nicole Bolton return to the full squad, which is captained by Meg Lanning.
