England is full of stunning coastlines - from the White Cliffs of Dover to Cornwall’s crystal-clear waters and old-timey fishing villages in the north - there’s plenty to explore.
Now, a new hiking route, set to stretch along the entirety of the English coast, will take walkers past it all.
Dubbed The England Coast Path, the trail will be 2,800 miles long making it the world’s longest coastal walking route.
It’s expected to be finished in the next couple of years and will link up existing stretches of seaside paths as well as creating new trails.
Natural England's Chair Tony Juniper says: “England’s wonderful coastline is a national treasure. Our flagship England Coast Path is taking people through some of the finest and most important landscapes in England, opening up access to historic landmarks, natural wonders and breath-taking scenery, enabling more visitors to experience, recognise and value the benefits of our environment.”
While the path was meant to be finished in 2021, it may now take a bit longer but 60 per cent of the trail is currently accessible.
When complete, those walking the trail will be able to spot sights like Dorset’s Durdle Door, the Norfolk Broads National Park and pass through seaside towns like Brighton, Newquay, Blackpool and Margate.
