Former England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards warned the team they face tougher challenges in the World T20 after a routine win over Bangladesh.
After their opening fixture against Sri Lanka was washed out, England cruised to a seven-wicket victory — achieved under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method — in a rain-affected match, with debutant left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon taking three for 16.
England also face South Africa and hosts West Indies in their first-round group and Edwards — who helped the team win the 2009 World T20 on home soil — is cautious about their prospects.She said: “We have to be realistic — some of the batters for Bangladesh aren’t going to be like (West Indies’) Deandra Dottin and (South Africa’s) Lizelle Lee. England are going to face some more difficult tests.”
England soon reduced Bangladesh to three for two and their opponents never really recovered as they limped to 76 for nine.
Amy Jones finished unbeaten on 28 as England reached a revised winning target of 64 in the 10th over for the loss of three wickets.
Skipper Heather Knight said: “Conditions were tricky with the rain but we were delighted to get out there.”
