Substitute Chloe Kelly fired in the winning penalty as England completed another spectacular shootout comeback to defend their title and beat world champions Spain 3-1 on penalties in the Euro 2025 final.
The Lionesses came back twice to reach the decider in Basel and book this revenge mission against the same side who beat them at the 2023 World Cup in Sydney. And Mariona Caldentey ensured England would need another when she nodded in a 25th-minute opener, cancelled out by her Arsenal team-mate Alessia Russo with a header of her own from Kelly's cross after the break.
Hannah Hampton made two superb saves in the shootout, but Beth Mead and Leah Williamson also had efforts saved in a nervy exchange. Salma Paralluelo dragged her effort wide and that set the stage for Kelly, so often the one to step up in the big moments. She smashed her spot-kick into the top corner, as the Lionesses became the first senior England side to a win a major tournament on foreign soil.

06:48 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneGood morning, here’s reminder that England are champions of Europe...again!

Wiegman hails Hampton’s EuroS 'fairytale'
Sunday 27 July 2025 23:03 , Alex YoungSarina Wiegman has hailed Hannah Hampton’s journey at Euro 2025 as a “fairytale”.
Hampton enjoyed an incredible tournament after being made England’s No1 on the eve of the Euros, with Mary Earps retiring.
Hampton excelled throughout the Euros and was named player of the match in the final, saving two penalties as England beat Spain.
And asked about Hampton’s tournament, Wiegman said: “Every player has their one story and journey and hers has been incredible.
“Starting the tournament and losing the first game, there was so much riding on every game, we had five finals.
“She had to step up and I think she has been amazing. It’s a little bit like a fairytale to stop those two penalties in the final.”

Kelly thanks her doubters after firing England to glory
Sunday 27 July 2025 22:38 , Alex YoungChloe Kelly has thanked everyone that wrote her off for giving her the fuel to fire England to European glory.
“There were a lot of tears at full-time, especially when I saw my family, because they were the people that come me through those dark moments,” said Kelly.
“I am so grateful to be out at the back end, but if that’s a story to tell someone who maybe experiences something the same, then tough times don’t last and just around the corner was a Champions League final. I won that and now a Euros final, I’ve won that.
“So, thank you to everyone that wrote me off, I’m grateful.”

Chloe Kelly on her penalty routine
Sunday 27 July 2025 21:53 , Alex Young“To be honest, it started when I was at Everton - quite a few years ago now.
“It is something that just works for me, I can’t explain it too much. I actually spoke with one of the coaches the other day about it, it’s just my routine that works for me and I take my time, I take my breath, and I am confident in that.
“Taking a penalty normally would feel a bit weird to me. So it is just my routine. Sometimes you miss, sometimes you score, but I was adamant I was not missing two on the bounce.”

Agyemang sets England and Arsenal trophy targets
Sunday 27 July 2025 21:40 , Alex YoungMichelle Agyemang is targeting more trophies for England and Arsenal after a stunning breakthrough at Euro 2025.
On Sunday, she was crowned Young Player of the Tournament by organisers UEFA.
She told ITV: "It just feels surreal, you know. And I'm so grateful to God that we're here. Because, you know, at the beginning of the tournament, it seemed like we wouldn't get here, but here we are.
"It means the world to me. It's only four years ago [that I was ballgirl], it's such a short amount of time, but to be here, I'm thankful to my team-mates, to the coaches and staff."
Asked what's to come from the 19-year-old, Agyemang said: "I want to keep working hard. I want to keep winning tournaments. I want to keep doing what I can to help the team, to help my club and our country."

Captain Williamson left in 'total disbelief'
Sunday 27 July 2025 21:22 , Alex YoungEngland captain Leah Williamson admitted she was in “total disbelief” as the Lionesses beat Spain to win Euro 2025.
England defeated Spain 3-1 on penalties after the final in Basel had finished 1-1 and gone to extra-time.
Hannah Hampton was England’s hero, saving two penalties as the Lionesses retained the European crown they won three years ago.
The Lionesses are now the first England team to retain a major trophy and also the first to win one on foreign soil.
“Total disbelief - but at the same time, I knew it was going to happen,” said Williamson. “Playing for this England team is unbelievable.
“You cannot put us down. It’s such an amazing feeling to be a part of. There’s always a moment when I think, right girls, now’s the time. Let’s turn it on."

Bronze played entire tournament with broken leg
Sunday 27 July 2025 21:15 , Alex YoungLucy Bronze remarkably revealed that she has played through the pain at Euro 2025 with a fractured tibia.
She went down injured during extra-time against Spain and had to be replaced and limped up to collect her medal with most of her right leg covered in strapping.
That was explained after the match in a post-match interview, when it emerged that Bronze played throughout the tournament with a significant injury.
Asked how she felt, Bronze paused and smiled before revealing: “I’ve actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia but no-one knew.
“And then I’ve just hurt my knee today on the other leg.
“I think that’s why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game because I’ve been in a lot of game. But if that’s what it takes to play for England, that’s what I’ll do.
“Very painful.”

Bronze played tournament with a fractured tibia
Sunday 27 July 2025 20:34 , Matt VerriPretty remarkable comments from Lucy Bronze.
She’s just revealed that she has played the tournament with a fractured tibia.
Yes, the whole tournament. Yes, with a fractured tibia.
Madness.
And she’s still dancing...

Kelly: I'm so proud to be English
Sunday 27 July 2025 20:28 , Matt VerriLionesses hero Chloe Kelly proclaimed "I'm so proud to be English" after scoring the winning penalty which secured back-to-back Euros titles for her country.
Kelly, who scored the extra-time winner in the 2022 final against Germany at Wembley, slammed home the decisive spot-kick as England beat Spain on spot-kicks after an enthralling 1-1 following extra time.
Kelly made her trademark prancing run-up before smashing the ball into the net and peeling away in ecstasy to celebrate with the rest of the players in front of the England fans.
"This team shows exactly what it's like to be English," Kelly told ITV Sport. "I'm so proud to be English! ... Every girl out there with that dream: you can do it. Keep reaching for the stars."
She added to BBC Sport: "I am so proud of this team. So grateful to wear this badge. So proud to be English.
"I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice.”

Inevitable
Sunday 27 July 2025 20:15 , Matt VerriWhat were you all worried about?
4 - @Lionesses have won all four of their penalty shootouts under Sarina Wiegman, with Chloe Kelly netting the winning spot kick in three of those. Trustworthy. pic.twitter.com/aYMtR7VFyF

Leah Williamson has her hands on the trophy once again. She lifts it together with Keira Walsh.
We Are The Champions then starts blaring out around the stadium.
I’m going to take a wild guess that this isn’t the last time these players will be singing along to that tonight.
England players going up to get their medals.
Lucy Bronze has near enough her entire right leg strapped, she can barely move.
Heroic effort from her all throughout the tournament.
England player ratings
Sunday 27 July 2025 20:05 , Matt VerriHannah Hampton 9 | Star player
The goalkeeper has had a brilliant tournament after being made England’s No1 on the eve of it. The hero of the shootout, saving two penalties. Remarkable.
Lucy Bronze 7
Will have been disappointed that Caldentey nipped in front of her to score the opening goal. Recovered well after that and made a few vital clearances. Tireless.
Leah Williamson 9
A captain’s performance from the centre-back. Just a rock in the heart of defence and barely put a foot wrong. Passing was on point, too.

Aitana Bonmati wins player of the tournament.
Unsurprisingly it’s not exactly the biggest smile you’ve ever seen as she has to stand and get her picture taken with the trophy.
This England team are heading home with plenty of extra luggage.
Michelle Agyemang first up, she’s been named young player of the tournament. Huge cheers from her team-mates as she dances through the guard of honour.
Reaction from Chloe Kelly
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:57 , Matt Verri"I am so proud of this team,” she tells BBC Sport.
“So grateful to wear this badge. So proud to be English.
"I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice.
"Unbelievable. All the staff behind us and Sarina Wiegman - she has done it again! Unbelievable.
"It is going to be crazy. I hope the whole of England comes out to support us and shows their love to these girls as they deserve it."
Lionesses do it the hard way
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:52 , Matt VerriPenalties against Sweden. Extra-time against Italy. Penalties against Spain.
Not sure how England made it all the way at this tournament, but they have!
Back-to-back European champions.

Sunday 27 July 2025 19:48 , Matt VerriJust ridiculous.
WHO. ELSE.
Chloe Kelly made made for the big moments. She absolutely smashed it into the top corner.
Two saves in the shootout from Hannah Hampton too. Incredible.
Sarina Wiegman running probably as quickly as she ever has in her life to join the celebrations.
ENGLAND WIN EURO 2025!
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:46 , Matt VerriAND CHLOE KELLY DOES WIN THE EUROS FOR ENGLAND!
MISS! England 2-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:45 , Matt VerriParalluelo to level it up. If she scores this, we’re effectively at sudden-death.
BUT SHE DRAGS IT WIDE!
Nobody move.
Chloe Kelly with a penalty to win the Euros.
MISS! England 2-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:44 , Matt VerriWilliamson next up. The captain. To move England within touching distance.
SAVED.
Goalkeeper went pretty early, Williamson went that way and it’s saved.
MISS! England 2-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:44 , Matt VerriBonmati...
AND HAMPTON SAVES!
HUUUUUUGE MOMENT.
GOAL! England 2-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:43 , Matt VerriCharles for England. On as a substitute in extra-time.
SCORES!
Lionesses lead for the first time.
MISS! England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:42 , Matt VerriCaldentey, who opened the scoring for Spain, strolls up.
And I do mean strolls up... so slow up to the ball and it’s a terrible penalty.
Hampton guesses correctly and makes the save!
GOAL! England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:41 , Matt VerriGreenwood next to the spot. England need to get on the board.
And she does! Just about enough power on it.
GOAL! England 0-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:40 , Matt VerriIt’s Guijarro first up for Spain.
And she scores, straight down the middle.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:40 , Matt VerriI am not in a good spot here, surrounded by Spain journalists - who just went wild after that save.
MISS! England 0-0 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:39 , Matt VerriMead for the second time... saved by Coll!
Not a great penalty at all. Very central.
Not enough drama for you?
Mead first up for England. She slips, scores... but the referee says she has to take it again.
Touched the ball twice.
Hampton has taped a piece of paper with her homework to her wrist.
England to go first in the shootout.
The good news is that England beat Sweden in a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.
The bad news is that shootout took about three days, had a succession of some not very good penalties... and cut the life expectancy of the country in half.
And so here we go again.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:34 , Matt VerriRight, up we all get to go behind the sofa.
FT: England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:33 , Matt VerriWell.
It’s penalties.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:32 , Matt Verri120+1 mins: Nearly...
Long ball forward from England, flicked on and for a brief second it looks like Mead will get there after making the run in behind.
But at full stretch she can’t get there.
At the other end, more superb defending from Carter. Charges down Bonmati’s cross, it bounces back off the Spaniard and out. Goal kick.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:31 , Matt Verri120 mins: Would say about 90% of the fans the camera has cut to look like they are about to throw up.
Two minutes left to play. Then penalties.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:29 , Matt Verri118 mins: England just haven’t been able to hold the ball up up front in extra-time. Spain have kept coming back at them.
Williamson plays it long, Agyemang thinks she’s been fouled. The whistle goes... for a Spain free-kick.
Wiegman unimpressed. To put it mildly.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:27 , Matt Verri116 mins: Kelly to take this. Now would be a pretty decent time to score...
Pinged in right on top of the goalkeeper, Coll claims it. And the whistle had gone for a free-kick anyway.
Apart from that, it went exactly to plan.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:26 , Matt Verri114 mins: Stanway has gone down for England. Referee over to talk to her and the physios in a way that suggests she thinks the midfielder might be fine.
Maybe not - she’s off and Clinton is introduced.
Hemp does so, so well. Keeps the ball in play out wide and somehow forces a corner.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:24 , Matt Verri113 mins: This might be the longest seven minutes or so you’re going to experience.
Caldentey charging at the England defence, rolls it wide to Lopez.
Allowed to cut onto her left foot, but again she can’t hit the target. Not sure England need to keep giving her the chance to do so...
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:23 , Matt Verri112 mins: England dropping deeper and deeper...
The latest Spanish cross is whipped in from the right, Hampton claims it well.
She then launches it as far as physically possible up the pitch.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:22 , Matt VerriThis is like some form of torture for the England fans behind Hampton's goal.
Some nervy faces.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:22 , Matt Verri110 mins: Another Spain corner coming up. Stanway the latest England player to throw her body in the way.
Pina with the ball in, Paredes wins the header and it drops for Paralluelo.
The entire nation is very grateful to the Spain striker, who takes a big old swing at thin air rather than scoring from a few yards out.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:20 , Matt Verri109 mins: Hemp does superbly down the right to flick the ball into space and she gets the cross in, but Spain deal with it.
Walsh and then Mead both have a hack at Pina to stop the counter. Had to be done.
Bonmati then finds herself in space, cuts it back... Charles reads it and hacks the ball away.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:19 , Matt Verri107 mins: Batlle with a scream heard across Europe.
Greenwood did just about catch her late, and it’s a free-kick for Spain out wide. Time to start holding your breath and hoping for the best again from an England perspective...
It’s a great ball in... somehow finds a way through everyone!
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:17 , Matt Verri106 mins: Not sure the England fans are going to make it to penalties if this continues...
Paralluelo free in the box, lays it off to Pina and she drags an effort just wide of the far post.
Spain continue to look the more dangerous.
Back underway!
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:16 , Matt VerriHere we go again.
We’ve got 15 minutes to go. If that’s not enough, it’s a penalty shootout.
A change from both sides. Charles on for Bronze, while Spain have Ouahabi on to replace Carmona.
HT: England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:14 , Matt Verri105+2 mins: And breathe....
Batlle in behind the England defence, rolls it across the face of goal.
Paralluelo should have a tap-in, but her flick is wide of the far corner. Had to score.
And that’s half-time in extra-time.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:12 , Matt Verri105 mins: I fully endorse that message.
Two minutes added on. Getting increasingly scrappy, Spain winning a fair few cheap free-kicks.
And by ‘cheap’ I mean ‘shouldn’t ever be given as’ free-kicks.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:11 , Matt VerriI think I speak for the entire nation here when I say, please, no penalties.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:10 , Matt Verri104 mins: Agyemang slides in and seems to have made a brilliant challenge.
But the whistle goes for a free-kick... despite replays showing it was a brilliant challenge.
Guijarro launching herself ten feet into the air won the referee over.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:09 , Matt Verri103 mins: Rare chance for England to break, Hemp free on the right.
Inside onto her left foot, cross isn’t a great one and Agyemang can’t do anything with it.
It’s at least eased the pressure on the England defence.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:07 , Matt Verri100 mins: Spain whip in a couple of crosses towards Bronze, she does enough to jump and put Pina off.
But the Spanish winger then cuts inside Bronze and curls an effort towards the far corner, flashes wide.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:05 , Matt Verri99 mins: Bronze struggling to walk as she limps to the touchline. Surely can’t continue.
She has other ideas - the right-back has returned to the pitch for England. We’ll see for how long.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:04 , Matt Verri97 mins: Bronze has gone down and she looks in a lot of pain. Going to take a lot to make her come off this pitch.
Grimacing as she gets some treatment, looks to be her right leg.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:03 , Matt Verri96 mins: England haven’t really had a touch in extra-time.
Lopez looking dangerous on this right wing, Greenwood just about managing to stop her creating anything... for now.
Going to be a long 25 minutes if this continues, though.
Bonmati can stroll forward, 25 yards out and gets the shot away, Williamson makes the block. Desperate defending.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 19:01 , Matt Verri94 mins: Third booking of the match for an England player.
Hemp stands on Bonmati’s foot as she made a late challenge, painful one for the Spaniard.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:59 , Matt Verri92 mins: Agyemang has barely had a kick in her 20 minutes on the pitch so far. She’s shown at this tournament that she doesn’t need much, though, to come alive.
She’s leading the line for England. Mead up to support her, with Kelly on the left and Hemp on the right.
Back underway!
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:56 , Matt VerriSettle in again.
We’re up and running in extra-time in Basel.
What do England have left in their legs? We’re about to find out.
Lionesses still fighting!
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:55 , Matt VerriStill the case that England have been leading for a total of five minutes across their knockout matches at this tournament.
And yet here we are with their bid to defend their European crown still alive as they head into extra-time in the final.
It’s been a wild ride.
And the England dream is kept alive! 🤩

Incredible performance after all she's been through.
FT: England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:52 , Matt VerriWe’re going to extra-time in the Euro 2025 final!
Huge effort from the Lionesses, who once again find themselves going beyond the 90 minutes.
Alessia Russo’s header cancelled out that first-half opener from Mariona Caldentey.

England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:50 , Matt Verri90+3 mins: Carter reads it well - and she then smashes the ball as far up the pitch as possible.
It comes straight back, Paralluelo gets the ball stuck under her foot in the box.
Lopez has a chance, but curls it high and wide. That should be that for normal time.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:49 , Matt Verri90+1 mins: Spain looking the more dangerous in these final minutes of stoppage-time. England very much in ‘we’ll take extra-time’ territory.
Hampton lumps a goal-kick long, fair to say this is not the time for taking chances at the back.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:47 , Matt Verri90 mins: Spain corner as we move into stoppage-time. Four minutes added on.
Swung to the back post, Greenwood wins the header and Mead then charges down Bonmati’s effort.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:46 , Matt Verri88 mins: You’re holding your breath every time Spain counter.
There’s a lot of space for Del Castillo, but Greenwood does just about enough to stop her getting a shot away.
That’s the Spaniard’s last involvement. Paralluelo on to replace her, while Vicky is introduced for Gonzalez.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:43 , Matt Verri86 mins: Another change from Wiegman.
Toone’s match is done, on comes Mead. Another great option to have off the bench.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:42 , Matt Verri85 mins: That was half a chance for England.
Ball came to Kelly in the Spain half, Agyemang immediately made the run in behind but her Arsenal team-mate couldn’t find her.
She would have been in.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:40 , Matt Verri82 mins: Right then. Back up and running, Hampton and Bronze are fine to continue.
England not particularly in a rush when the ball is out of play.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:38 , Matt Verri80 mins: A chance for both sets of players to breathe after a frantic period.
Bronze and Hampton both down for England, they’ll need some treatment.
These Lionesses players have a lot of minutes in their legs.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:36 , Matt VerriGame suddenly starting to feel very open as we enter the last 10 minutes.
A few tired legs out there.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:35 , Matt Verri78 mins: There’s an increasingly chaotic feel to this match.
Williamson, of all people, makes the run in behind and she slides in to turn the ball across the face of goal.
Nobody there for England and Spain can hammer it away.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:33 , Matt Verri76 mins: Good spell this for Spain. They win a free-kick out wide on the right, Pina will whip this in.
Or, as it turns out, whip it over everyone.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:31 , Matt Verri74 mins: Pina involved straight away, she beats Bronze on the outside and lashes an effort at goal - Hampton parries it out.
Williamson there to complete the job and head it behind for a corner.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:29 , Matt Verri72 mins: Agyemang on for Russo. She’s got plenty of time to be the hero again.
Pina is on for Spain, replacing Putellas... who doesn’t look particularly thrilled that she’s the one coming off.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:27 , Matt VerriHuge cheer goes up as Michelle Agyemang gets ready to come on. England fans singing her name.
She couldn't do it again, could she?
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:26 , Matt Verri68 mins: Kelly... just wide!
She is just so positive on the ball, Spain look terrified of her.
Goes on the outside this time, shot towards the far corner is tipped wide by Coll. That was going in.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:24 , Matt Verri67 mins: Bronze, for some reason, decides to have a spell at No10.
Loses the ball and Spain have seven players flooding forward on the counter.
Not a great pass from Guijarro, forces Del Castillo wide... and the winger then lashes an effort high and wide from a tight angle.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:22 , Matt Verri65 mins: Dear me.
Coll absurdly cool in goal for Spain as the white shirts come flying in to close her down.
Rolls the pass out to Carmona, she’s under huge pressure too but flicks it away from Hemp and wins the free-kick.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:21 , Matt Verri63 mins: Russo pings the ball out to Kelly, bit much on it and the winger has to scamper to keep it on.
Kelly picks out Greenwood who has made a good run inside, but the left-back runs out of room and it’s out for a goal-kick.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:19 , Matt Verri61 mins: What do England do now?
Wouldn’t say the momentum is with them, because Spain are back in their pattern of seeing plenty of the ball, but the Lionesses will certainly be feeling much better about life.
That goal was near enough their first attack of the half. Need to find a way to keep getting the ball to Kelly.
England 1-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:16 , Matt Verri59 mins: England flying into the challenges now.
First Russo, and then Bronze absolutely clatters into Carmona. Caught her very late, slipped in the process so that probably made it looked worse.
Yellow card for Bronze, who for some reason is trying to argue it.
Simon Collings at St Jakob-Park
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:15 , Matt VerriMichelle Agyemang had been sent to warm up before that goal.
She's still doing so - England to go for it?
GOAL! England 1-1 Spain | Alessia Russo 57'
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:14 , Matt VerriOUT OF NOTHING!
Kelly cuts onto her right foot, whips in a brilliant cross and Russo rises highest, heading brilliantly back beyond Coll!
England 0-1 Spain
Sunday 27 July 2025 18:12 , Matt Verri55 mins: Walsh is a long way up the pitch and it’s left a massive gap in midfield.
Putellas looks to take full advantage, but she shanks the shot wide of the far post.
This isn’t working at all for England. Midfield giving them no control.

Sunday 27 July 2025 18:09 , Matt Verri51 mins: Russo tries to dink a cross into the middle, half-hearted appeals from England for handball.
The half-hearted nature might have something to do with the fact they all saw the ball bounce off Aleixandri’s stomach.

Shot hammered at goal - straight at Hampton. Anywhere else and that was probably 2-0.

Sunday 27 July 2025 18:06 , Matt Verri49 mins: England pressing more and trying to snap into the challenges - don’t think Spain will mind that.
Space on offer for them if they beat the press, and there’s no team better at doing so.
England have to take that risk, though.

Sunday 27 July 2025 18:04 , Matt Verri47 mins: Gonzalez is about three miles offside, but for some reason we play on for another 30 seconds.

Sunday 27 July 2025 17:44 , Matt Verri43 mins: Well Kelly immediately makes something happen.
Skips into space on the left and drills a low cross in. Stanway unable to get the touch on it, but it’s already better.
And now Kelly is at it again, this time cutting inside. Gets the shot away, dragged wide.
You’d suggest the last 45 seconds are enough to show she should have started.

Gonzalez beats Williamson to it, but can’t direct the header. Nodded wide.
