England vs Scotland player ratings: Nikita Parris and Lucy Bronze impress in Lionesses' World Cup opener

First-half goals from Nikita Parris and Ellen White were enough for England to begin their Women’s World Cup 2019 campaign with a 2-1 win against Scotland.

Phil Neville’s side were favourites to win their first group game and began on the front foot, quickly going a goal ahead from the spot.

Nicola Docherty's handball in the area from Fran Kirby’s cross was deemed a penalty after a short VAR consultation, and Parris opened her account in France from 12 yards.

England found themselves two up before the break when Ellen scored with a neat, curling finish from inside the box after seeing a an earlier header ruled out for offside.

Scotland, on their World Cup debut, grew into the game and Claire Emslie found the back of the net in the 80th minute to setup a tense finish to the match.
