A tremendous point for Scotland, but it could have been more

So, a tremendous performance for Scotland, who stymied a terribly disappointing England side, and give themselves every chance of getting out of this group and into the round of 16.
Scotland can get the win they'll need against Croatia, particularly at Hampden Park, which will be rocking even at a reduced capacity.
England were disappointing, there's no doubt about that, but if you want to look at the positives, that's two clean sheets and four points from the opening two games of the tournament.
However, for the pessimists among you, there has to be concerns about the inability for England to create any real meaningful opportunities despite enjoying the weight of possession and territory. Harry Kane looked appalling tonight, slow in body and mind, and overburdened by the pressures of leading this team.
England will face the Czechs at Wembley for a shot at coming top of the group at the same time as that Scotland game.
Will England prefer to come second in the group? Winning means playing the runner up in the group of death ... so perhaps coming second to the Czech Republic, which has a superior goal difference at the moment, will be preferable.
Thanks for being with us for this match, we will continue to blog select other matches across the tournament, so we hope to see you back soon.

Scotland deserved to win: Robertson
Scotland captain Andy Robertson has joined ITV now.
"Yeah we did [deserve the win]," he said.
"I don't think many can argue that we had the big chances, at times we kept the ball superbly well, frustrated them.
"On another night we could've came away with more - but we take a point, keeps us alive, it's important to use this feeling and the fans being happy into Tuesday and try and use it to get a positive result."
A good summation from the Scotland skipper.

Well, at least Gary Lineker was positive about the performance...
Something tells me that he's not being serious...

'Football ain't coming home with that team'
More from ITV, and the pundits have been pretty scathing of what they've seen.
Former Scotland captain Graeme Souness said "football ain't coming with that team," and it's hard to argue with that.
Ian Wright, who played 33 times for England throughout the 90s, said he was "embarrassed".
"What's he taken Phil Foden off for? I was embarrassed for us today."

Harry Kane: Draw a 'fair result'
England captain Harry Kane has been speaking to the British broadcaster, ITV.
He said a 0-0 draw was a fair result and that England was not at its best.
"Fair result, fair play to Scotland they defended well," Kane said.
"It wasn't our best performance, but it's another point closer to qualification and that's our ultimate goal.
"We just have to recover and look forward to next game in a few days.
"It was a tough game - Scotland defended really well, made good blocks at the right times when we know no game is going to be easy it's a European Championship and Scotland are playing for their lives.
"We've got another big game in a few days against the Czechs, we want to finish sharp - it's a point, not what we wanted but it's one step closer to qualifying. One step at a time and we go again."

England's penalty shout?
John Aloisi has just been speaking on Optus Sports' coverage on the penalty shout that Raheem Sterling had when Andy Robertson stepped on his foot.
He thinks it should have been a penalty.
It's a dubious one for us here in the office, it would have been a hugely controversial moment and Sterling was going nowhere, so we're leaning towards it not being a penalty.

Was Scotland unlucky?

Scotland and its fans seemed desperately happy with a point, but on the basis of those performances, should they be aiming higher?
The visitors did have to absorb plenty of pressure from England, but got their defensive structure spot on and denied the English any really clear changes at goal.
And, up the other end, the Scots definitely had the better of the chances, forcing a couple of really good saves from Jordan Pickford.
Their fans have every right to be thrilled. It was an excellent performance.

Full time! England 0-0 Scotland
Scotland fans cheer like they've won the entire tournament, a real guttural roar around Wembley, swiftly drowned out by the boos from the England supporters.

Scotland has every right to be thrilled with that performance, what a turn around from the defeat to Czech Republic for the Scots, they get a very well deserved point - and tested England throughout.
England will be disappointed - the boos tell the story from what the home fans expected.
But was that performance all that different from the victory over Croatia in terms of performance? I don't think so.

However, England now have four points and are all but assured a place in the next round of the competition.
Scotland though, if they can get a result against Croatia — which on this showing they are more than capable of — are right in the mixer for a spot in the round of 16 as well.

90+1' - Chance England!
Oh my goodness what a chance!
There was an awful jumble of bodies in the penalty area, for some reason Marshall could not pick the ball up, Declan Rice was on the ground for England, he somehow managed to get the ball away from the melee, but found the only Scotsman who was on his feet in the area.

89' - Chance Scotland
Dykes almost gets in behind but appeared to use his hand or arm to control the ball. Free kick England.

87' - Yellow card for Stephen O'Donnell
A crude challenge from the Scotsman on Grealish sees him go into the book.

85' - Scotland sub
Che Adams comes off, a decent amount of work under his belt, Kevin Nisbet comes on in his stead.
Scotland has an excellent spell of pressure, they've grown back into this second half after absorbing England's pressure.
They deserve a lot of credit for that.
