England got their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a 5-0 thrashing of Group I minnows San Marino on Thursday night.
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored twice in the Wembley rout against the team that sit rock bottom of Fifa’s world rankings.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse opened the scoring with his first England goal, while Raheem Sterling - wearing the captain’s armband with Harry Kane remaining an unused substitute - also got on the scoresheet before the interval.
Calvert-Lewin scored again shortly after half-time, before Aston Villa striker Watkins came off the bench to memorably net on his international debut.
Job done for dominant England, but tougher tests await.
Gareth Southgate’s side travel to Albania on Sunday before hosting Robert Lewandowski and Poland next week on the road to Qatar.
