England are celebrating reaching the World Cup semi-final after coming from behind to beat Norway in Miami on Saturday night. Following a heroic performance against Mexico in the Estadio Azteca in the last-16, this was more of a battling performance from the Three Lions as they were far from their best for large periods.
Andreas Schjelderup broke the deadlock shortly after the half hour mark with a cross that deceived Jordan Pickford and went in off the post. However, Jude Bellingham equalised on the stroke of half-time and the scored what proved to be the winner in the first period of extra-time, taking advantage of a Orjan Nyland mistake to set up a semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland.
Norwegians, who toppled Brazil en route to reaching a maiden World Cup quarter-final, thought they had retaken the lead in the second half but Torbjorn Heggem’s goal was ruled out following a VAR check for Erling Haaland’s foul on Elliot Anderson at a corner.
