England’s Test summer began in disastrous fashion on Wednesday as they were skittled before lunch for just 85 runs by a magnificent Irish bowling performance.
Playing on his home ground, Middlesex seamer Tim Murtagh was the standout performer, taking five wickets for just 13 runs.
Ireland then reached 132-2 as they looked to drive home that advantage, only to lose five wickets for just 17 runs as they were dismissed for 207.
England came back into bat for one solitary over in the evening, but avoided yet more drama on a day where 20 wickets fell in total. They begin day two trailing by 122 runs.
