England vs Ghana LIVE: World Cup 2026 latest score, match stream, goal updates and fan reaction

England vs Ghana LIVE!

England return to World Cup action as they face Ghana in their second fixture in Group L. The Three Lions will be full of confidence after brushing aside Croatia 4-2 to make an emphatic winning start in Dallas last week, with Thomas Tuchel inspiring a much-improved performance after the break following a chaotic first half. Harry Kane scored a double, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford both later netted - but it could have been many more.

England will be confirmed as group winners if they triumph in their first-ever competitive meeting with Ghana and Panama do not beat Croatia in Toronto later on. The Black Stars also made a winning start in Group L, with Caleb Yirenkyi’s goal securing a dramatic last-gasp victory over Panama. The 2010 quarter-finalists are out to cause a major upset tonight, led by Manchester City star Antoine Semenyo and now coached by ex-Manchester United assistant Carlos Queiroz.

Tuchel may name an unchanged team for England, which would mean Bukayo Saka on the bench again, though Marc Guehi has been pushing to return. Follow England vs Ghana live below, with expert insight and analysis from Standard Sport’s Dom Smith at Boston Stadium.

22:22 , Arthur Ferridge

England upping the ante with a couple of welcome shots to raise the crowd, just a minute or so after some of the media here in the stadium were beginning to suggest Tuchel turns to his bench. Always the way - England in the ascendancy.

England 0-0 Ghana

2ND HALF: England 0-0 Ghana

22:09 , Arthur Ferridge

Back underway for the second half! Who will find the breakthrough, or, at least, the first shot on goal?

Anthony Barry speaks to BBC Sport

22:06 , Arthur Ferridge

"It has been absolutely OK. A game we probably expect to be a difficult challenge, a difficult opponent.

"They defend deep, deep, deep, probably deeper than we expected.

"They have this incredible speed. The headline for us is probably patience and continuing attacking with a stable base. Ghana are a team with excellent counter-attacking options."

Stat attack

21:58 , Arthur Ferridge

Another bit of data to chew on.

Ghana also finished the first half of their victory over Panama last week without taking a shot.

Does Carlos Queiroz have something up his sleeve here?

Stat attack

21:55 , Arthur Ferridge

One stat to define the first half, you ask?

The opening 45 minutes have been and gone without a shot on target, while Ghana have not had a shot at all.

The two sides between them have generated just 0.27xG.

Turgid stuff in Massachusetts.

HALF-TIME: England 0-0 Ghana

England 0-0 Ghana

21:49 , Arthur Ferridge

45+3mins: Kane gets on the ball in a dangerous area for what may well be the first time this half. He gets a shot away but has four Ghanaians between him and the goal, so all he can do is win a corner.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:48 , Arthur Ferridge

45+2mins: Bellginahm looks to beat one man too many in a bid to keep this latest England attack alive, but runs out of room and lets the ball run out of play.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:42 , Arthur Ferridge

41mins: Rice catches Opoku late in a spirited press, and is booked for his offence.

Dom Smith reports from the Boston Stadium

21:38 , Arthur Ferridge

England are just struggling to create a high quality of chances here. Ghana are offering very little but are just managing to keep England to half-chances here. Is second group game syndrome kicking in? England's haven't won their second game at a tournament since 2018.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:38 , Arthur Ferridge

38mins: Anderson remonstrates animatedly as Guehi is penalised for a soft foul on Adjetey.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:37 , Arthur Ferridge

37mins: Rice heads across goal from Madueke’s cross, but it was always rising and sails over.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:36 , Arthur Ferridge

36mins: England have completely dominated possession here, with 83 per cent of the ball so far, but they are yet to manage a shot on target. I’m sure Anthony Barry will speak of the performance in glowing terms at half-time.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:35 , Arthur Ferridge

35mins: Gordon whips a pacey cross towards Bellingham, but Partey clears.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:34 , Arthur Ferridge

Madueke’s deflected cross falls for Bellingham to have a shot, but his effort is blocked. The ball works its way back to Madueke’s feet and he tries again, but this time Ghana clear their lines and play out.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:32 , Arthur Ferridge

32mins: Guehi rises highest to clear Ayew’s free-kick and is fouled in the process.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:29 , Arthur Ferridge

29mins: And after our second hydration break of the last five minutes, we are once again back underway.

Dom Smith reports from the Boston Stadium

21:28 , Arthur Ferridge

They have now gone for a proper hydration break. It's a joke, in overcast and slightly windy Foxborough.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:26 , Arthur Ferridge

26mins: England are really struggling to find a rhythm here. We head over to the bench now for the actuial first hydration break - the previous one five minutes ago was just an injury stoppage.

Let’s see what Tuchel has in his locker here.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:23 , Arthur Ferridge

24mins: And we are back underway.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:22 , Arthur Ferridge

Reece James and Jordan Ayew are down receiving treatment after knocking heads here, but appears both will be fine to continue.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:21 , Arthur Ferridge

21mins: We reach the first hydration break, and Tuchel is laying into Bellingham. He is particularly animated as he gives the player fresh instructions.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:20 , Arthur Ferridge

20mins: James whips a deep cross into the Ghana box, but Asare gets out to it and makes a routine catch.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:18 , Arthur Ferridge

18mins: Konsa is penalised for pulling back Ayew, and Ghana enjoy a rare spell in possession.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:15 , Arthur Ferridge

16mins: Anderson is the latest to get a shot off after Gordon’s deft pass, but it is deflected and bounces away from goal.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:15 , Arthur Ferridge

15mins: Kane catches a knock on the back of the head as he challenges for an aerial and goes down in a heap, but is fine to continue.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:14 , Arthur Ferridge

14mins: James sets the free-kick for Rice to shoot from range. The Arsenal man fizzes his shot just over the bar. Warning shots fired!

England 0-0 Ghana

21:13 , Arthur Ferridge

13mins: Gordon is tripped in the middle of the pitch, leaving England with a free-kick about 30 yards out. Gordon, James, Kane and Rice are discussing what to do with it.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:12 , Arthur Ferridge

12mins: Madueke plays James into a dangerous area and his cutback into the six-yard box is dangerous, but dealt with.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:11 , Arthur Ferridge

11mins: Madueke cuts inside and sends a cross in search of Kane, but it is cleared away. Ghana are sitting deep in a back five, with pretty much every man save Ayew behind the ball. England can’t find a way through...

England 0-0 Ghana

21:09 , Arthur Ferridge

9mins: Ghana come forward and Senaya breaks to the byline, but Anderson tracks back to shove him off the ball.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:06 , Arthur Ferridge

6mins: England get a first chance to exercise a set piece, but Rice’s delivery fails to beat the first man.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:05 , Arthur Ferridge

5mins: Partey lofts an incisive ball over the top for Williams, but he had strayed offside.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:03 , Arthur Ferridge

3mins: A pretty pedestrian opening couple of minutes here, with England content to knock the ball around the back and look for an opening. They are yet to find one, but Ghana are sitting off and opting against wasting energy in the press.

England 0-0 Ghana

21:01 , Arthur Ferridge

1mins: Rice gets us underway, and Pickford launches a long ball straight up the pitch. The scheme does not come off and Ghana clear their lines.

KICK-OFF! England 0-0 Ghana

21:00 , Arthur Ferridge

And we’re off!

20:56 , Arthur Ferridge

Anthems are done and dusted, and can I just say, Ghana have walked out in some very smart tracksuit jackets. Big fan of those.

Anyway - kick-off up next!

Team news reminder

20:45 , Arthur Ferridge

Just 15 minutes left until we get underway! Here’s a reminder of today’s XIs.

England XI: Pickford; James, Konsa, Guehi, Spence; Anderson, Rice; Madueke, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane

Ghana XI: Asare, Adjetey, Mensah, Opoku, Senaya, Yirenki, Partey, Sibo, Semenyo, Ayew, Williams

O'Reilly denied Semenyo reunion

20:40 , Arthur Ferridge

In his pre-match media duties, Nico O’Reilly discussed how England could get the better of the talismanic Ghana winger Antoine Semenyo, his Manchester City team-mate.

He said: “[Semenyo] is very strong. He’s always in the gym. He’s a big lad, but he can’t win the game by himself, so if we double up on him, we’ll see.

“We’ve got a physical squad ourselves. Set pieces were a threat in the last game and I’m sure they [Ghana] will be looking at that.”

But he will not get the opportunity to put that plan into action tonight, with Djed Spence starting in his place.

Celebrity guest

None other than Justin Rose is in the stands to watch England today.

The golfer remains in contention at the US Open, where he is presently tied for 11th place.

And he’s brought Ian Poulter with him!

Inside Ghana's turbulent World Cup preparations

20:30 , Arthur Ferridge

As World Cup preparations go, a 1-1 draw with Wales on an overcast Tuesday evening in Cardiff is far from ideal. For Carlos Queiroz and Ghana, that is just about your lot, writes Standard Sport’s Arthur Ferridge.

This once-great tournament team has faded somewhat since winning the Africa Cup of Nations four times between 1963 and 1982, but they are generally good value for a World Cup run worth watching. On balance of the last three months, this year will be no different.

That much was made evident on March 31, just 79 days before the Black Stars were due to face Panama in their World Cup opener, when the Ghanaian FA announced the sacking of then-manager Otto Addo following a five-match losing run.

Exactly two weeks later, the journeyman coach Queiroz, formerly an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and head coach at Real Madrid, was confirmed as his successor. In signing, he took on one of the greatest firefighting missions in World Cup history.

Tuchel: England will not get complacent against Ghana

20:25 , Arthur Ferridge

“The players keep themselves on edge. The guys who did not get the minutes from the beginning are pushing but we try to make sure in training exercises that everyone is pushing but that is the mentality. That is why I love the team anyway.

“It is our job to not be complacent and say ‘OK, everything is done now,’ the players know that hard work is needed and it will always be a mix but at the moment I cannot see any signs of complacency.”

Carlos Queiroz: Ghana will 'entertain' in England clash

20:20 , Arthur Ferridge

“Trust me. Huge entertainment on the pitch. Huge entertainment.

“That’s our job. To create entertainment. We belong to the entertainment business. This is our duty and our obligation on behalf of Ghana to create entertainment.

“The English team is going to do the same. We’re going to fight, we’re going to play, we’re going to enjoy.

“It will be a wonderful game. I guarantee you there will be memories and hearts of people after the game finishes.”

Anthony Barry to give another half-time interview

20:10 , Arthur Ferridge

Anthony Barry gave a very frank assessment of England’s first-half performance against Croatia, which he branded “fearful”, but he will pick up the microphone yet again today.

Tuchel confirmed: “Everyone is speaking about this. I’m so happy if he speaks. And you see the quality. The guy is a top coach.

“And he is an inspiration, and he pushes me, and helps me and supports me. It’s just top level.

“I haven’t heard [the interview]. But I hear a lot of people speaking, so he gets a lot of banter for it.

“I can imagine it makes sense what he said, and he spoke hopefully from his heart and from his knowledge because he’s just a top coach.”

A big day for Djed Spence

20:05 , Arthur Ferridge

This is a massive test for Djed Spence. It would not be unfair to say the Spurs left-back is yet to win over the nation.

His performances for Spurs this season were, shall we say, up and down, and yet he replaces the imperious Nico O’Reilly today.

Jordan Ayew: Ghana will give 100 per cent against England

20:00 , Arthur Ferridge

“I’m doing my best to guide the boys and to make them feel as comfortable as they can. To take off the pressure off them and to do my best for us to perform on the pitch.

“That’s all I do. I’m being myself and I have to perform as well. They have to perform as well. It’s teamwork. We’re helping each other to perform.

“That we’re going to give our 100 per cent and that we’re going to fight. I will make sure that when we come out of this game, we’ll have no regrets.”

Trevoh Chalobah sets clear target for World Cup campaign

19:55 , Arthur Ferridge

“(Winning the World Cup is) every kid’s dream. It will be the best moment of my life, not just for me but as a team. It is not a trophy that is easy to win, you know? That comes around quickly. It would probably be my greatest achievement in football.”

Dom Smith reports from the Boston Stadium

19:50 , Arthur Ferridge

The selection of Spence at left-back is a real surprise from Tuchel. Many expected it would be Nico O'Reilly again but perhaps the manager felt his position wasn't the best against Croatia - or enjoyed the lively cameo of Spence and feels like changing things round a little. Guehi in for Stones less of a surprise. The latter looked nervy and betrayed his lacking match minutes in that opener.

Ghana team news

19:45 , Arthur Ferridge

This is an interesting Ghana side, with some big names relegated to the bench. Lawrence Ati-Zigi has been impressive in his last two appearances but is replaced by Ben Asare, with Brandon Thomas-Asante and Abdul Fatawu also dropped.

Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Elisha Owusu also find themselves on the bench.

Those are some big calls from Carlos Queiroz!

Caleb Yirenkyi gets the nod after scoring the winner last time out and will partner the returning Thomas Partey, who missed the Panama match after being denied a Canadian visa, in midfield.

What to make of the England team

19:40 , Arthur Ferridge

Thomas Tuchel has made two changes here, with John Stones and Nico O’Reilly making way for Marc Guehi and Djed Spence.

Elsewhere, it is all the same for England, with Declan Rice and Harry Kane both shaking off minor injury worries to start.

Weather report

19:20 , Arthur Ferridge

France vs Iraq became the first match of this World Cup to be suspended due to adverse weather yesterday, but such a fate should not befall England here.

Driving rain is lashing Massachusetts and Rhode Island, but no thunder or lightning is forecast, which is a positive.

We can play through rain, but any lightning strike within eight miles of the Boston Stadium will result in the match being suspended for a minimum of half an hour.

Tuchel: Saka fit to feature

19:15 , Arthur Ferridge

“It is another big thing on the right wing between Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka, and the beautiful thing is they do it for Arsenal as well.

“He [Saka] feels no more pain. He was able to train in full [on Sunday and Monday].

“The England manager added: “Bukayo is getting better and better, feels no more pain, and is ready to go — without telling you if he starts or comes from the bench.”

Dom Smith's predicted England XI

19:10 , Arthur Ferridge

Team news will be released around 7.30pm BST. Here’s how our intrepid England correspondent thinks the Three Lions will line up today.

Predicted England XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; James, Konsa, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Madueke, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane

Last time out: England 4-2 Croatia

19:05 , Arthur Ferridge

Harry Kane bagged a brace as England beat Croatia 4-2 to make a winning start to their World Cup campaign.

Croatia have become something of a rival for the Three Lions in recent years and this match had a certain derby feel to it. Kane gave England the lead twice in the first half, once from 12-yards and again from a corner, but they were pegged back both times by well-worked team goals from the Vatreni, their toughest rivals in Group L, before second-half hits from Jude Bellingham and substitute Marcus Rashford put the result beyond doubt.

After a tense build-up to the tournament and unconvincing performances in warmup friendlies, Thomas Tuchel will be rightly thrilled to make a winning start to his first World Cup, though he will be keen to mend defensive frailties before facing Ghana and Panama.

Important game for Kane?

18:55 , Arthur Ferridge

Today’s match will be an important one for Harry Kane, for a variety of reasons.

Not least because he is a dedicated NFL fan, more specifically of the New England Patriots, in whose home stadium he will play today.

Last time out: Ghana 1-0 Panama

18:50 , Arthur Ferridge

Caleb Yirenkyi scored an injury-time winner as Ghana overcame their turbulent World Cup preparations to beat Panama.

But for all the chaos of their tournament preparations, Ghana got off to a good start here, battling through an emotional group stage opener against Panama and coming away with three points after Yirenkyi tapped Brandon Thomas-Asante’s cross home in the 95th minute.

His action sparked jubilant scenes in one dugout and desolation in the other. The 73-year-old Queiroz raised his arms aloft in celebration and at the full-time whistle, raced onto the pitch to celebrate with the travelling support.

"First we had to suffer, we battled like warriors,” Queiroz told ITV Sport. “We won the game with the brains.

“We knew that they would control the game but step-by-step this was our strategy to let them come and start to make the control until we scored because this is the way to win. Win all the time."
