England are through to the European Championship final for the first time in their history after Harry Kane’s extra-time goal earned a 2-1 victory over Denmark.
The Three Lions went behind to the first goal they’d conceded in the tournament as Mikkel Damsgaard’s stunning free-kick gave the Danes the lead to stun the majority of the 60,000-plus inside Wembley.
However, they hit back before half-time as Bukayo Saka’s low cross was turned into his own net by Danish captain Simon Kjaer under pressure from Raheem Sterling.
It was Sterling’s driving run that eventually brought the decisive moment in extra time, earning a soft penalty as he darted between two Danish defenders and though Kane’s spot-kick was saved by Kasper Schmeichel he was able to stroke the rebound into an empty net.
England will now return to Wembley on Sunday as they look to claim their first major trophy since 1966.
