England vs Colombia, World Cup player ratings: Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier shine as Three Lions win on penalties

England are through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after beating Colombia 4-3 on penalties, having drawn 1-1 in regular and extra time.

Harry Kane put Gareth Southgate's side in front on the 57-minute mark after converting from the spot having been brought to the deck inside the Colombian box.

From there, England went on to dominate the game and looked set for a first knockout win at the World Cup since 2006.

But a late Yerry Mina header, struck in the dying minutes of injury time, forced the game to extra-time. A nervous 30 minutes ensued, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough.

The dreaded penalty shootout followed, but Southgate's men defied the ghosts of their past to claim a first knockout win at the World Cup since 2006.
