England vs Argentina LIVE: Result and latest updates as tempers boil over after Twickenham thriller

England vs Argentina - LIVE!

England held on to finish 2025 with an 11th consecutive victory and first Autumn Nations Series clean sweep since 2021, but Argentina almost pulled off another thrilling comeback at Twickenham. Man-of-the-match Max Ojomoh’s try after an early George Ford drop goal put Steve Borthwick’s side firmly in the first-half ascendancy, with the Bath centre also teeing up Immanuel Feyi-Waboso’s speedy score with a perfect cross-field kick on just his second senior international start.

England looked like they might pay for a Ford miss from the tee and Luke Cowan-Dickie’s chalked-off try on the stroke of half-time, with the resurgent Pumas - who were 21-0 down against Scotland last weekend but won 33-24 - hitting back through Justo Piccardo’s score and a Tomas Albornoz penalty. Santiago Carreras brought Argentina back within a point, only for Ojomoh’s superb offload to release Henry Slade for a vital try.

Three more points from Ford looked to have the game done and dusted for England, but then Rodrigo Isgro set up a grandstand finish after Joaquin Oviedo had a try ruled out. A last-gasp lineout steal ultimately won the day, with tempers flaring after the final whistle as Argentina fumed over a late hit from Tom Curry on Juan Cruz Mallia. Follow England vs Argentina reaction live below!

Borthwick: England found a way

23:17 , George Flood

More from Steve Borthwick now on England’s 11th straight win...

"It was a tough arm wrestle of a Test match against an Argentina team who kicked it as far as they could or contestable.

“The players found a way.

"The team is developing, the way we said it would. There's plenty of work still to be done, there's plenty to improve upon.

“We're excited about the potential of the team moving forward."

Borthwick: Curry's character is impeccable and unquestionable

23:16 , George Flood

Here’s Steve Borthwick’s reaction to that angry tunnel bust-up between Tom Curry and Felipe Contepomi...

"Tom Curry's character is impeccable. He's a fantastic team man, a very respectful guy. His character is unquestionable.

"As for the incident in the tunnel, clearly I'm aware there was an incident.

“I didn't see it, I wasn't there, I was in the changing room at the time.

"I wouldn't want that, in any instance, to be the centre of attention of what was a tough, hard Test match where two teams really went at it for the afternoon and that's all I've got to say really about it."

Replacements

Theo Dan (Cowan-Dickie 72’) 6

Straight into the action with an excellent carry and made some big tackles.

Fin Baxter (Genge 51’) 7

Helped England steady the ship in the second half. Applied excellent pressure as Argentina saw a late try ruled out through Joaquin Oviedo.

Will Stuart (Opoku-Fordjour 51’) 6

Provided strength at the scrum. Battling performance when England needed his experience.

Charlie Ewels (Itoje 72’) 6

Brought back into the fold, it’s been quite the redemption for the Bath lock.

Tom Curry (Underhill 51’) 5

Some sloppy moments, particularly with a late hit on Juan Cruz Mallia to hand Argentina a penalty.

(Getty Images)

Henry Pollock (Pepper 51’) 7

Gave away a penalty for not rolling away when England needed more composure, but made amends to earn a penalty later in the second half.

He will always provide England with a spark. Involved in some afters at full-time.

Alex Mitchell (Spencer 61’) 6

Added energy off the bench, but did not have much ball in hand as England held on for a precious win.

Forwards

Ellis Genge 6

Referee Pierre Brousset took particular exception to him at the scrum, but still a solid display.

Luke Cowan-Dickie 7

Desperately unlucky to see his try on the stroke of half-time ruled out for a knock-on.

He has had a strong autumn both offensively and defensively.

Asher Opoku-Fordjour 6

Had to be alert early on with Argentina getting several scrums deep in England’s 22.

Replaced after 51 minutes with the Pumas suddenly dominant.

Maro Itoje 7

Dominant at the lineout. Alert to the rebound when Carreras’ penalty came back off the post.

Alex Coles 5

Put in some big tackles with Argentina enjoying plenty of the ball in England’s 22.

Picked up a yellow card deep into the second half that almost undid England’s early good work.

Guy Pepper 7

Alert to the loose ball for England’s opening try, but pinged rather harshly as Argentina fought back after half-time.

A quietly impressive performance from the Bath flanker, who has enjoyed an excellent 2025.

Sam Underhill 7

Got through plenty of defensive work, making the most tackles of any England player before his withdrawal early in the second half.

Ben Earl 7

Did everything you have come to expect from Earl. Carried the ball into pressure and put in some big hits. All-action.

Backs

Freddie Steward 8

Penalised for holding on, he was grateful to the post for keeping out Santiago Carreras’ penalty. Made a superb recovery to deny Argentina a try just past the half-hour mark.

Stood up to task in the second half with England under pressure.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso 8

Drove with the ball into pressure and strong in the air.

It was his knock that opened up the opportunity for England’s first try. Then put on the afterburners to get the second.

Henry Slade 7

Scored the vitally important third England try. His experience helped them over the line.

Max Ojomoh 9

This was a big opportunity for Ojomoh, and he made a dream start, racing clear to score England’s first try after 10 minutes.

Landed a wonderful cross-field kick to assist Feyi-Waboso and showed quick hands for Slade’s try.

Penalised for holding on, the only blot on an otherwise superb performance.

Elliot Daly 7

Ever reliable under Borthwick, he made a storming tackle to earn England a penalty.

There were no signs of rustiness on his return from a broken arm.

(Getty Images)

George Ford 8

Kicked an early drop goal, but missed another with England in need of points in the second half.

Accurate from the tee, keeping his cool despite a couple of nervy moments. Kept the scoreboard ticking over late on.

Ben Spencer 7

Played some good box kicks as England used the kicking game to their advantage.

Ojomoh adds new dimension as resilient England dig in for clean sweep

23:09 , George Flood

It’s job done for England and on to the Six Nations after they recorded their 11th win in a row against Argentina and ensured an Autumn Nations Series clean sweep, writes Sam Tabuteau.

England were made to work hard for their fourth victory of a thoroughly successful November, but despite Argentina coming close to snatching it at the death, Steve Borthwick can be proud of his side’s resilience.

Looking to build on their landmark victory over New Zealand, a much-changed England raced into an early lead against the Pumas with Max Ojomoh starring.

Injuries had forced Borthwick’s hand, with Ojomoh handed just his second senior appearance in an England shirt and a first at Twickenham.

Contepomi accuses Curry of being 'bully' and shoving him in tunnel bust-up

23:07 , George Flood

Argentina head coach Felipe Contepomi accused England’s Tom Curry of being a “bully” and shoving and swearing at him as tempers flared at Twickenham, writes Sam Tabuteau.

Contepomi was left fuming after flanker Curry’s late 74th-minute tackle on full-back Juan Cruz Mallia, which he described as “reckless”, as tensions boiled over on the pitch and in the tunnel after England’s dramatic 27-23 win over the Pumas on Sunday.

12 mins: Argentina try to hit back quickly from that early double blow, earning a penalty and opting for a scrum in the England 22.

They look to have engineered a walk-in try, but loosehead Gallo can’t hold onto a pass and a golden opportunity is spurned.

Underway in south-west London!

Will England make it 11 successive wins to finish 2025 with a flourish and autumn clean sweep?

England are in their dark change strips this afternoon, with Argentina in blue and white, as was the case for both Tests in the summer.

'Elite' Ojomoh backed to take next step with England

15:49 , George Flood

It’s also a very unexpected chance for Max Ojomoh against Argentina, with his only previous senior England appearance coming when he started an 11-try, 69-7 thrashing of the USA that came after their Argentina tour in the summer.

But Richard Wigglesworth believes the Bath star is ready to take the next step after making improvements across the board and impressing at club level.

"Max is an elite-level attacker in terms of his ball movement, his vision and how he connects on the run," England’s defence coach said on Friday.

"You take a lot of opportunities when he's out there and he's improved his movement off the ball. And on the other side of the ball he's improving all the time.

"You see the teams that he plays in, how much better he makes them when they've got the ball and I expect him to bring that to our team this Sunday.

"He's played so well for Bath for an extended period of time and has started the season well.

"He's been in and around the squad, he's the guy who deserves the opportunity and we feel like he's ready to take the next step."

Standard Sport’s Sam Tabuteau is in position at Allianz Stadium Twickenham and previews today’s contest as England look to finish an impressive 2025 with an 11th consecutive win and Quilter Nations Series clean sweep.

A huge opportunity awaits for Max Ojomoh in a new-look England attack coached by the brilliant Lee Blackett...

Experimental England's summer statement in Argentina

15:27 , George Flood

England have won all three meetings against the Pumas since then however, including during the 2023 World Cup pool stage when George Ford kicked all 27 points in a remarkable 27-10 win in Marseille after Tom Curry had been sent off after only three minutes for a high hit on Juan Cruz Mallia.

They later beat the same team 26-23 in the bronze-medal match in Paris, with Ben Earl and Theo Dan both registering tries.

The most recent meetings between the two nations were of course in the summer, when an experimental touring England team missing most of their key stars on British and Irish Lions duty twice beat an Argentina side resting several players ahead of the Rugby Championship.

Ford was central to a second-half masterclass in an opening 35-12 triumph in La Plata, before Jack van Poortvliet's dramatic late try secured a nail-biting 22-17 triumph in San Juan.

Argentina out to repeat rare Twickenham upset

15:15 , George Flood

Argentina won at Twickenham for only the second time - and first since 2006 - on their last visit to English rugby headquarters back in the autumn of 2022.

On that occasion, Eddie Jones’ England led 16-12 at half-time with Joe Cokanasiga on the scoresheet, yet dramatically went down 30-29 after tries from Emiliano Boffelli and Santiago Carreras.

Boffelli held his nerve in a battle from the tee with Owen Farrell to secure a famous Pumas victory - only their fifth in 29 attempts against England.

England vs Argentina prediction

15:05 , George Flood

Things are looking very rosy indeed for England right now and another victory this weekend would cap off what has been a mightily fine year - far and away the best of Steve Borthwick’s tenure to date and a far cry from 2024, when concern abounded after they repeatedly fell short against top-level opposition.

The previous frustration over his perceived conservatism, pragmatism and less-than-thrilling style of play has been forgotten as the wins continue to pile up and with the All Blacks vanquished at Twickenham for the first time since 2012 in a classic encounter.

It is a brilliant place to be in with preparations gearing up for the 2027 World Cup in Australia, the draw for which is coming up in early December.

England’s supreme strength in depth in most positions is the envy of much of the rugby world and is being utilised perfectly, with the so-called ‘Pom Squad’ continuing to wreak havoc off the bench.

Borthwick’s big calls are all coming off for the most part, not least the decision to opt for the experience of George Ford over Fin Smith as his starting No10.

With the Six Nations approaching fast on the horizon, they will be strong favourites to register an 11th consecutive win against an Argentina team who roared back in spectacular fashion to topple Scotland thanks in no small part to the heroics of Santiago Carreras.

But the Pumas looked extremely jaded and out of sorts for over 50 minutes at Murrayfield, at the end of what has been a long year, and any repeat of that would surely see them brushed aside comfortably by soaring England.

England to win, by 14 points.

Argentina reshuffle after Murrayfield comeback

There are two more changes in the Argentina backline, with wing Bautista Delguy and centre Justo Piccardo replacing Mateo Carreras and Santiago Chocobares.

In the pack, Thomas Gallo and Marcos Kremer start at loosehead prop and openside flanker respectively as Mayco Vivas and Joaquin Oviedo make way.

Santiago Grondona switches from the blindside to number eight in a back-row reshuffle.

Argentina have 10 Prem-based players in their matchday squad and are captained as usual by former Leicester stalwart Julian Montoya.

Like Santiago Carreras, Pablo Matera is once again on the bench despite his impact in Edinburgh.

Boris Wenger, Tomas Rapetti and Franco Molina are all promoted to replacements.

Argentina team news: Albornoz returns at fly-half

Argentina head coach Felipe Contepomi makes five changes to the Argentina team that pulled off that incredible comeback at Murrayfield seven days ago.

Bath’s Santiago Carreras remains on the bench despite his stunning and decisive cameo against Scotland, with the returning Tomas Albornoz replacing Geronimo Prisciantelli at fly-half.

Ewels and Dan on England bench

It’s a 6-2 bench split once more from England, with Theo Dan the next man up as hooker cover with Jamie George out.

Borthwick has surprisingly chosen to omit Chandler Cunningham-South completely in favour of Charlie Ewels, who makes the list of replacements having been drafted into the wider squad this week along with hooker Jamie Blamire and Saracens’ teenage star Noah Caluori.

Fin Smith is omitted entirely once again with Marcus Smith keeping hold of that number 23 shirt due to his versatility.

George injured as England revamp front row

England have also lost Jamie George to a hamstring injury, so Luke Cowan-Dickie comes into an entirely changed front row at hooker.

Ellis Genge replaces Fin Baxter at loosehead, with Will Stuart only on the bench and Joe Heyes not involved as Asher Opoku-Fordjour gets the nod at tighthead.

He has typically played on the other side for England so far, so it’s something of a selection surprise from Borthwick, who has formidable strength in depth in most positions.

Ollie Chessum is still out with a foot injury, so Alex Coles continues alongside captain Maro Itoje at lock.

England stick with the back-row trio of Guy Pepper, Sam Underhill and Ben Earl.

Daly makes England return after broken arm on Lions duty

14:03 , George Flood

Before Max Ojomoh’s late addition, the headline England team news for today had been the return of Elliot Daly, who starts on the left wing in his first appearance since a broken forearm led to an early exit from the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia in June.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso switches over to the right flank with Tom Roebuck missing with a foot injury.

Freddie Steward is fit to start at full-back having passed second and third head injury assessments carried out during the game against the All Blacks despite failing an initial HIA that was required after his smart gumshield was triggered.

George Ford keeps the reins at fly-half after his latest heroics against New Zealand that included two quick-fire drop goals before half-time, though Alex Mitchell makes way for Ben Spencer at scrum-half.

England team news: Ojomoh replaces Dingwall late

13:56 , George Flood

Having already made six changes from England’s incredible win over New Zealand, Steve Borthwick was forced to tweak his starting team on Friday after Fraser Dingwall was ruled out with a side strain.

Henry Slade had already been called upon to make his first appearance of the autumn at outside centre with Ollie Lawrence suffering a hamstring injury, while the versatile Tommy Freeman remains sidelined with his own hamstring issue.

That means that talented Bath midfielder Max Ojomoh - son of former England back row Steve Ojomoh - comes in to earn just his second cap in the number 12 shirt this afternoon in an all-new centre partnership.

England vs Argentina live

13:48 , George Flood

Good afternoon and welcome to Standard Sport’s live coverage as England conclude an impressive Quilter Nations Series and indeed 2025 as a whole against Argentina.

After the All Blacks were vanquished in a thriller to follow opening autumn wins over Australia and Fiji, Steve Borthwick’s in-form team will look to make it 11 consecutive victories today to finish the year with another statement before the upcoming 2027 World Cup draw and with one eye now firmly fixed on the Six Nations.

But a team showing seven changes from that bruising epic against New Zealand could get a tough test from a Pumas side who remarkably came back from 21-0 down in the second half to beat Scotland 33-24 at Murrayfield last weekend, having already put 52 points on Wales this month.

Kick-off is coming up at 4:10pm GMT, so keep it right here for match build-up, team news and live game updates, including analysis from Standard Sport’s Sam Tabuteau at Allianz Stadium Twickenham.
